its rather shameful, that the flop is the reason they went ahead. i've never seen as much football as i have recently, and the whole flop thing is really disgusting. really turns me off on the sport, when there are no penalties for dives, there is no replay, and a match can turn on prejudicial refereeing. granted, this sport is more realistic than professional wrestling but, not by much.

there is no honor in this win.

Sorry if it seemed callous, I'm laughing at the Photoshop - not at the result. I've just chuckled at this on Facebook, actually:

The Roast | 23 June

♫ I’m a little teapot, short and stout.
Here I am diving, now Mexico’s out ♫

I'm entirely convinced that was a dive :(

Fuuuck NED. I doubt Costa Rica will beat them but one can dream. Hopefully they get kicked out in the semis at least.
DOOMBOT
After watching all of Costa Rica's games, I really can't come up with any big areas of weakness on this team. They aren't spectacularly good in any area either, maybe other then their keeper (Navas), but they just seem to play well as one entire unit. This is extremely dangerous for any team that plays them. I think they have a good shot to take out the Netherlands and really surprise people even more then they already have.

I can't help it, I've got a soft spot for the Netherlands.

You see, Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated 5 times, and never got an Oscar for his acting. Likewise, team Oranje will have been among the top 4 exactly 5 times if they beat Costa Rica... and it's about time they got a trophy for their acting :p

Just kidding, I hope it won't happen again :(

They have a better chance because of their overall performance, not just in this tournament but in the qualifying as well. They got to this stage beating top teams when everything was against them. They are a solid squad. And, unlike the Mexican squad, they played smart until the end.

I love the sport for what it is. But I would hate to see more preferential calling in the next games for Brazil and Netherlands. It would suck if Costa Rica get cheated out of a deserved victory if they work as hard as they did today.

Everything points to Brazil vs Argentina in the final, giving the glory to Blatter's favorite pet, Messi.

Robben's style reminds me of veteran baseball stars who drive the ball inside late in the game drawing contact with the defender. Marque players get the benefit of the doubt on fouls like that.

Imagine how many times Robben gets attacked during competition. I bet every player floored that often will become a star in diving.
Every defender knows it's dangerous when Robben is in the sixteen, trying to stop him is a risk every single time and even more when you touch him.

Moreno ing broke is leg during this action. Could have been Robben's too!!!

But is not like we didn't get two penalties against us in previous matches which weren't penalties.

But meanwhile Bayern found a solution for Robben:

I don't doubt for a second there's a rationale behind diving, and it's done for self-preservation. However, I'm as upset by Robben's dive as I was by Fred's fake crumbling against Croatia - it may have protected him, but it also led to a potentially unfair result. Even De Telegraaf had articles on "Duikende Robben" today because, to be honest, that's not how I wanted to see an Oranje victory. Would Huntelaar's equaliser have dragged the game to extra time and the Netherlands would've crushed Mexico either way? I believe so, yeah. Would it have been a better victory, and I'm sad it wasn't? Yes. Am I glad the internet is making fun of an inevitable result that helped my favourite team advance and bring lulz into the world?

Oh yeah :D
