| That was wild. If only the squad had played like they did during those last 15 of extra time the whole game. |

Great run by the U.S. We put it out there until the last second.
We're not ready yet, but our time will come. We're headed in the right direction. |

Decided to do some number crunching:

If extra times are anything to go for, this is the most well-balanced World Cup in history. In the round of 16 alone, five matches have gone to extra time: As many as in all rounds of each previous World Cups, except for 1990... and there are 8 more games to go. |

Yeah, I read that in the New York Times too... I just wished they had more goalkeepers so we could do some comparison :(
And Tim Howard was great, that's for sure :) |

| Unfortunately I caught only the first half where we were pretty clearly outplayed but from what I read it sounds like it ended up being a good match. GG Belgium and good luck against Argentina. |

By in large tough game to watch. US had chances.. the last one prior to end of regulation will sting for a while.
But hats off to Belgium… they played a great game. Despite the pressure, they seemed to deal with it quite nicely. |

What's annoying is that four out of those five games were goalless after 90 minutes, and the majority of that normal time has been absolutely turgid. And after all that the underdog has ultimately capitulated in every single game. At least there have been goals in the majority of those extra periods, though, and decisive goals at that. Usually extra time is just an agonisingly tense 30 minute cramp-filled prelude to penalties. |

Finally Belgium shows its potential, they just need to score sooner. And score 1 of 15 chances instead of 1 of 30 maybe. Their first goal in each game this WC was after 70 minutes or something.
Good performance of the US team too with Howard as man of the match IMO.
This must have been one of the most entertaining 0-0 games ever.
Funny coincidence, all four European countries in the next round are neighbors of at least two others (Belgium three).
Also never before all group winners reached the quarter-finals. |
