Looks like I got it pretty much spot on. Germany are deserved winners. They've been the most entertaining team in just about every tournament they've been involved in since 2006 and come close so many times. It would be tragic if this generation of players didn't win something. I feel for Argentina though, particularly Higuain. They should have scored the first goal on at least three occasions, and if so they'd probably have won the match. He's going to be haunted by that early miss for the rest of his life.
Looking waaaay back at my predictions at the start of the thread I got some things right and some things wrong. It was a tournament of big surprises and I never expected Spain, Brazil or Italy to be so poor. I'm not sure anyone did. I did call England's demise (and won money on it), and I would like Meat187 to admit I was right about Lowe and Germany. He didn't really try anything adventurous once things got serious - Lahm went to rightback, they played a proper striker up front and they hardly conceded any goals.
Overall, great World Cup. Really enjoyed all of it. |

| Definitely an excellent Cup, all-in-all! Hopefully it grew soccer's following a bit more in America. How could it not? with Suarez, Howard, and Brazil v Germany. Great talking-points, great playing, great game. |

Back OT, while a small part of me feels sorry for Brazil as a team, they simply didn't deserve more (and hey, 4th place aint bad), bhey should be incredibly proud for hosting a great world cup, probably the best in several decades and probably most enjoyable tournament since Euro 96.
One truly great thing to come out of this WC is the impact it has had on America; it was by far the most watched Football tournament for the US to date - the stats for just the USA's group games outstripped of other major sporting events like the stanley cup final or basketball finals. Based off this WC, it finally looks like football will be a major sport and only get more popular in the USA. |
