Carte Blanche is a little far... the end result would be trade restrictions inter-province, dispairity in standards of living, impediment to intrer-province business operations, and decreased mobility of the national citizenry. There has to be some level of uniformity. I do agree; however, that the fact that residual powers under the BNA act fall to the Fed and the Fed's ability to restrict/allow the distribution of tax revenue has resulted in the central government having too much influence over what should be provincial concerns. |
it would obviously have to be some form of border less union under the same currency, but if the kinks could be ironed out i do think that the tax payer everywhere would come out as he winner...invest in where you live, instead of funding screech purchases for a bunch of unemployed newfies.
ya kna? |

You may want to re-think that, as your province is a pretty big beneficiary of the transfer payment system. |

i know this, and i still would rather give that up to have more power in terms of having people that know about the province make the decisions for it.
i am a firm believer that even though the provincial tax would rise, the lack of the federal tax would still mean savings to families and working people. |

Who cares about the muslims, Sure they breed terrorists but name me a religion which doesnt? Let them have their bull mosque, the christians their bull churches and the jews their bull temples. Who cares? You're going to pick favorites over relgions now based on a minority of delinquints?
what ever happend to innocent until proven guilty? Why don't we just round up all the people who look like muslims and gas them for precaution. That'll solve our economic problems :p |
Straw man alert! Nobody's talking about rounding them all up and gassing them... it's about respect and using the faux "outreach" theme to advance a creeping agenda. I'm not saying they shouldn't have a mosque, I'm saying they shouldn't have one there.
It is obviously stirring up a hornet's nest by design... they've presented its construction as a symbol of healing and interfaith understanding, yet knowing the meaning of that location they have refused any consideration to build it elsewhere or even consider the sensibilities of those affected. Why don't we build a Japanese memorial at Pearl Harbor? A Nazi memorial at Auschwitz? Why not erect an American military culture center at Nagasaki and Hiroshima?
I don't know why people just can't bring themselves to admit even the possibility of what's happening right in front of their faces. Like PKC mentioned earlier, raising concerns about Islam shouldn't make one a bigot. But because everyone is so deathly afraid of being labeled a racist of bigot, they delude themselves or remain quiet (which is what those who turn to the race/bigot card aim to achieve- silencing debate on the real issues). |

I don't have any sense that people who are for allowing the building are doing so out of fear of being labeled racist. As far as I can see is it is because we don't see it as a threat. I am very interested in hearing both sides of this argument, and would be totally willing to change my stance if I were presented with information that led me to think that the intent behind the project was spiteful, but I simply do not at this point.
There are those who will use the race / bigot card at times, and I'm as against those people as you are, but to label everyone on this side of the issue as being so is simply not true. |

to be honest...i think your country is ed no matter what and that the constitution is almost as hilarious and full of as the tub girl video.:p
republicans always seem to be the first to bring up the constitution as they always seem to be the first to piss on it when it does not fit what they want. |
