If not gone they at least want it privatised. Because we all know about the huge success and profits the private funds had in the past few years. Oh, wait...

After a couple of minutes of googling (it took a while because googling for that exact quote came up with too many articles on sites such as foxnews.com, rushlimbaugh.com and democratchateamerica.com, not the most trustworthy of sources) we find this. If you had taken a few minutes to do a bit of googling yourself instead of religiously accepting what the right wing media machine told you, you would have seen (as i predicted in the provious post) that the quote was taken out of context.
| quote: | The suggestion that gave The Daily Caller’s story its headline this morning -- “Liberal journalists suggest government shut down Fox News” – actually came in the form of a question from UCLA lawyer Jonathan Zasloff.
Jonathan Zasloff, a law professor at UCLA, suggested that the federal government simply yank Fox off the air. “I hate to open this can of worms,” he wrote, “but is there any reason why the FCC couldn’t simply pull their broadcasting permit once it expires?”
Zasloff told POLITICO “things were clearly not put in the correct context,” saying that he offered his question in response to a series of complaints on the listserv about Fox News. “So I was thinking, if there really is a problem with Fox, and this would apply to left-wing media as well, I wonder if you could reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine, and that would fix the problem of media outlets telling outright lies, or, more importantly acting as an arm of a political party.”
Later, he said: “It was really more of a question than anything else, and nobody really picked up on it. That turns into my demand to shut down Fox News?”
He added that the discussion of revoking press passes, which appeared on the same thread, was totally separate from the discussion about the FCC’s role. The Caller story makes it appear as if it was one conversation, he said. |

The Wright story was important because nobody in the media was vetting Obama. It was all rainbows and unicorns, no questions asked. The man sat for 20 ing years in front of a hardcore racist preacher who blasted Hillary for being of white privilege, talking about "not god bless america, god damn america!", calling this country the US of KKK-A, and saying we got what we deserved on 9/11. That's not a ing story??? Obama said this man was his spiritual advisor! Naturally, people wanted and had the right to know, is their potential president aligned with such beliefs too- he's been listening to this kind of every Sunday for 20 years! You read the quote for yourself from Spencer Ackerman on how to scheme with the other JournoListers by making up bull racist accusations to deflect the story rather than report objectively; they were fuming mad that George Stephanopolous (Democrat) asked Obama, "Do you love your country as much as Rev. Wright?" That is when Ackerman's idea began and he enlisted his fellow lefties to attack in the manner they did. I didn't make this up man. He clearly said "accuse a prominent conservative... Fred Barnes, Karl Rove.. anybody" and turn the conversation that direction. Your defense of this is insane. My god. |
Again, god damn america sounds so bad (to some people) when taken on its own. But just for funnies lets look at a little bit more of that speech.
| quote: | | "The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme." |
And look at that, suddenly its not just a crazy priest wishing damnation upon his own country but rather someone angrily speaking out against social injustices. Now, if youre the kind of person who jerks off to an american flag and thinks his country is the epitome of perfect (and are a bible thumper to boot) then yes, you might get really offended just by hearing the words "god damn america" and dont care about anything else being said, but if your immediate reaction is not to pick up your guns and go take out the dirty liberal leftist communist that said that and actually listen to the whole thing and think you might find n inconvenient grain of truth in there. Which is why i argue that this is/was a non story. Once you know the background and not just a couple of shock quotes, deliberately mined and presented so that they would enrage people its not a crazy preacher wishing doom upon america any more, just a preacher that could do with a lesson in oratory so he could better form his arguments.
Though its funny that you should bring vetting into this, it lets me bring up the absolutely stellar vetting and reporting done by the republicans and the right wing media about sarah palin. Sticking with the crazy preacher theme, how enthusiastic was the right wing media to point out that she got on stage at her church with this guy, who blessed her so she would be protected from witches. You're worried about someone listening to preachings about social injustices every sunday? Im worried about the erson whos an old mans heart beat awa from the presidency who fears witches so much that she needs to get blessed to ward off their curses. The fact that this person belongs to a church that believes that the end of days are coming in their lifetimes is also something to worry about. So while you're so pissy about the damn liberal media not doing their job in vetting someone, the fault is much greater on the other side which leads me to the conclusion on this topic.
The alleged accusations of racism, are to be condemned and its a shame that such tactics even needed to come up in a discussion. However, I understand why they did it. In the media space so polluted with hateful speech, being bombarded from one side with accusations of being terrorists, un american, socialists, communists, fascists and perhaps worst of all, liberal (sometimes all at once), when staying on message is nigh on impossible due to all the false crap out there... a reminder that the game can be played both ways was frankly to be expected. Feigning outrage that someone used your own tactics against is is quite amusing.

You're trying to spin yarns about a right wing media conspiracy. Then you say it's ok for someone on the left, a former Civil Rights Chairperson no less, to flat out ADMIT that the strategy of falsely painting people as racists is cool because it deflects the conversation from the real issues of joblessness. Dude you are a hypocrite extrodinaire. |
It shoudnt be right for anyone to do it, but since we all know you people cant play nice and one side is doing it anyway, what we see here is a simple levelling of the field. Dont bitch about the other side not playing fair, when you were the one that started cheating in the first place.
Also, want to bring a discussion on the joblessness into this? Fine by me. But first you have to explain why, while claiming concern over the issue the republicans go too great lengths to kill every jobs bill, every stimulus bill out there thats made to help fix the problem. You cant blast the democrats for not doing enough, or anything to combat unemployment when youre the one making sure they cant do anything about it in the first place by employing dirty obstructionist tactics not seen since...well ever. Great job republicans, you included. You talk about nothing being done but you dnt bring anything of value to the table to help remedy the swituation, you just obstrust, obstruct, obstruct and bitch, bitch, bitch. |

It just left a bad taste in my mouth. And also I was making a joke with the bad taste in my mouth.
Personal attacks are fun and games considered to Nou.
And personally, I won't be there on business, I'm not going to tap into my savings to listen to Drone music (that I actually like) in a basement with voyeuristic pictures on the walls of girls showing off their teeth in an awkward situations. |
