I was opposed to the Mosque until I realized it was an upgrade from what was already there and is more than just a Mosque (but still a Muslim center). Moreover, the wife of the investor doesn't even wear a hijab/burka, so they seem pretty bilculturated to me. Plus if some blows up the next Ground Zero, this big Muslim center will likely fall too because it's so close.
And speaking of gay bar, there's a titty bar down the street from this new place no? That's good enough.

It's probably because they are Sufis, one of the ing farthest things from somebody who would be inclined to suicide bomb anything whatsoever. Sufism practically has its roots with the most interesting parts of Judaism, really- Qabalistic reasoning and all of that, oneness with God and mysticism, not with political frustration.
But by all means, judge this as though it's a matter of belief and politics. Not you, Jake, but all of the other ing Jesus freaks who think this matters in the least.

This man has grown ridiculously egotistical through his own Youtube popularity, as if it weren't enough to have to suffer through his ing boring, atheist rants about Gods he apparently doesn't care about in 10-minute increments. I kind of hope some pissed-off religious nut pushes in his face with a hammer, not to prove that God exists, but to prove that irony has substance.

It's funny because, I actually think he is right, at a basic level. The statement that 9/11 would not have happened without islam is largely, on its face, true.
The problem is he draws the wrong conclusions from that.
Radicalism in islam will not be extinguished or quelled by pushing back on it as much as possible and trying to drown it out. It has FAR too many constituents to try and take on that way. Certainly not by trying to block one of the most westernized and forward thinking strains of it, here in America, from building mosques of the future which will expunge the radicalist and backwards elements stuck in yesterdays world slowly over time.

I thought he was being ironic in the beginning but, halfway through it, I'm afraid he believes the bit about Islam and is trolling Christians for bonus points...

It's true. We can't have the CIA pulling leaders into position in the middle east anymore, hoping for the best. We can't keep regarding them as filthy Bedouins bent on conquest- they're people, largely held together by religious tethers which have helped them survive, culturally, for a great deal of time. Sounds familiar.
Saddam tried to exterminate Sufis in Northern Iraq in the 90s - VX Gas and all of that - he did a somewhat thorough job, too. Then when he tried to move to Kuwait, we started the first Holy Persian Gulf war. But now when the Sufis come to America to establish religious freedom, we say they aren't welcome here? Waitaminute- was Bush Sr. not... right?

We've done a pretty good job and making this country one of the safest places for it on earth, and getting better over the years despite what the idiots screaming about this mosque would prefer.
