I'm also saying its bull that those who oppose it are nothing more than intolerant bigots with no good reason, considering the Imam in charge is on the record saying ed up things, the funding is shady at best, and especially considering what happened there perpetrated by who. |
I think the majority who oppose it are stupid racist wits whose logic goes no further than fully equating Islam with terrorism. I don't count you as one of those people, and I do appreciate your ability to make some good points. I'm still for it being built right now, but it's nice to hear the opposing view presented clearly. |

Thanks. Agreed that there are plenty of fear mongering baffoons... but fully 70% of the public opposes this. There's no way that many people are bigoted twits. Americans', especially New Yorkers' wounds are still fresh. Is it too much to ask that what's considered hallowed ground be respected by those who know they're throwing gas on the fire while claiming its about bridge building? Are the concerns of the public that rediculous?
If I lost someone on 9/11, I can't imagine walking by and hearing the Arabic prayer music blaring through the PA system 5 times a day. Where's the common decency- I'll go back to what i said earlier and ask, would it not be insensitive to build a Nazi memorial next to Auschwiz?
From the original post:
Imam responding to gay bar construction: "You're free to open whatever you like. If you won't consider the sensibilities of Muslims, you're not going to build dialog."
| quote: | | That insanely hypocritical response is juicy indeed. As noted by one writer, "After all, construction projects that fail to consider local cultural sensitivities aren't very conducive to dialogue, are they?" |

God damn that's so true. "Try our new Big Beefy Smokehouse delux with tangy Texas bbq sauce and deep fried okra bits... or are ya yellah?"
I can see Burger King having a commercial like that, being narrated by some rugged guy on his horse just returning from roping cattle. :p |
See, I live in South Texas whitch is mainly hispanics so this doesn't fully apply to me. We have Tex-Mex food. It does a bit but not fully, I should have been born in Houston.:wtf:
Back on Topic: Can my friends robot tranny work as the bartender in this new gay bar called "It's Bahrainin' Men"

CNN Poll from 2 days ago: | quote: | According to the new survey out Wednesday, nearly 70 percent of all Americans oppose the controversial plan to build the mosque just blocks away from the solemn site in lower Manhattan while just 29 percent favor the construction.
Broken down by party affiliation: 54% of Democrats said they oppose the plans for the Muslim-led project, 82% of Republicans, and 70% of independents said they are against the proposal. | http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...ar-ground-zero/ |

I'm not saying they shouldn't have a mosque, I'm saying they shouldn't have one there.
Why don't we build a Japanese memorial at Pearl Harbor? A Nazi memorial at Auschwitz? Why not erect an American military culture center at Nagasaki and Hiroshima?
|
You're just being an idiot, Kevin.
The Japanese attacked us. The Nazi's killed Jews and others. America bombed Japan.
Not ALL Muslims attacked us. Just a small pissed off group of extremists living in the Middle East. |

No... you can't build a church or a synagogue anywhere you want to here either. There are such things as zoning laws restricting that for the same reasons you can't build a liquor store near a school or a strip club "where they offend local sensibilities". You can't even build a house if it doesn't conform to certain codes within the community.
The argument isn't against religious freedom or building a mosque, it's about specifically building one in that location. There are already 30 mosques in NY... but we'd be intolerant if we didn't want the newest and biggest one 600 feet from where 3000 people were killed in the name of Islam? |
As I said earlier, you can build whatever the hell you want wherever you want, as long as it fits into zoning laws. |

If we're talking about polls about opinion on this (not that opinion matters at all, since it's unconstitutional to not let them to build there), I'm pretty sure the opinions of those who live there are more important than people who live all over the country. |
