Wind needs 1700/2100 to work, 1700 alone won't work.

EDIT: Someone has already placed a Wind Sim into 1st gen iPhone, roaming on Roger's Edge network.

$0.25/min

why wouldn't it operate on 1700 alone if say the future phone supports it?

I'm pretty sure the towers they setup have multi or certain bands depending on the areas.
VERTiG0
It's because the that WIND uses requlres 1700MHz as the downstream band, and 2100MHz as the upstream band.

On a side note for some reason only half of my text messages are actually being sent now... I wonder if it's my phone, which has taken some serious unintentional abuse (so thankful for this steel construction), or a Rogers issue? Hm.

Basically I want an excuse to buy a Milestone, I guess

has anyone used skype to make calls? im thinking of getting the nokia n900 and using skype to make my calls. I found out to call any landline or cell phone will cost me $35.20 for the entire year! Only downside i see is that I cant use the phone to make emergency calls

From my experince, I've only used Skype on the iPhone and haven't tried other units. I've tested it on Edge, 3G & Wifi and the results are just as clear as any landline or cellphone. Obviously, Edge isn't so clear and it's a must to be on the other two modes.

My suggestion is, if your gonna get the N900 ... Wait until Wind allows you to use that unit on their networks before you buy it.

My buddy is doing what you want to do, got the Skypeout credits and using it w/ his iPhone at the momment with IM+ w/ Skype. Anytime anyone calls him over Skype, it's directly starts ringing as a normal call on his unit.

But i dont plan on joining any provider, just want to use Skype, with the n900 i dont think i will need any provider to use the phone as an internet phone

With no service provider, how you gonna get Data Access?

N900
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 1700 / 2100 / 900

Its because they are using AWS , rather than the standard UMTS

UMTS frequency bands - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands

35.20 is it? I didn't know that.... I thought it was a per minute thing. This would really cut on my calling cards for long-distance on my phone, and make calling terribly cheap when I'm in the US on wifi :)
