AT&T in the US has $30 Unlimited Data, except that it has a soft cap of 5GB.

I'm not sure what the cap is for the UK carriers, but Rogers definitely has one of the most competitive rates for data usage. PS, you can tether on this plan!

The only major issue is that this is only a limited promotion until the end of August and not permanent.

John Boynton, the senior vice-president and chief marketing officer of Rogers Wireless, said in an interview the promotional offer is in response to customer concerns.

“What we’re trying to do is satisfy a very small group of people, the early adopters,” he said. “When those customers are done, we’re back to our basic user.”

It's rumoured that the prepaid iPhone will be $730. What a waste of money.

Thats not bad considering it was over $1,000 for the original iPhone if you tried to buy it unlocked in Canada back in the day.

The price should be $299 + $400 which makes sense.

Since the DECF is $400 and the phone is $299.

Anyone can just walk in to the store, buy in iPhone, then cancel the contact right away.

my biggest concern: will the iphone last the 3 years????

My phones never last more than one year... how will this be different?

You pay for another one...or you just start using a different phone? No different than if you signed a 3-year contract with any other phone.

yes but that first iphone is subsidized at 200$, the next ones won't cost me that cheap... do you see my drift here? especially if they charge 700$ for one without a contract.

I definitely get what your saying, But its no different than any other phone. It's just like a blackberry.

You can get the curve subsidized for $199, but to buy a brand new one is over $500.

All phones are crazily subsized. Those phones that you get for $0 cost around $250 without a contract, because the cell companies make all of their money by locking you into long term contracts.

Say you have 1-year left on your contract and lose your phone, you either buy a brand new one from a little chinese man on the street, or you can buy a new one from Rogers, and they'll give you $100-$200 off called a HUP (Hardware Upgrade Plan). The amount you will get back for a HUP depends on how much time you have left on your contract. This will cause you to re-new your contract, and you start back again at the beginning of 3-years.

Or, you just use a crappy phone for like $5 for the remainder of your contract and then get another new iPhone for the original $299.

OR, you can talk to a CSR (Customer Sales Representative) and *negotiate* some kind of deal and they may give your more towards the phone or something like that.

Nerologic
I am going out like a grizzly!

I am going to add 4 lines to my account, "mysteriously" loose all 4 iphones then cancel all 4 added lines before the "grace" period.

I just hope they sell out FAST!

What the hell do you do to your phones? I never understood people like this. I have a buddy, who goes through the same story. Every 8 months, he has a new phone. His excuse: 'i work in construction'. I asked, are you in using it to hammer drywall or what?

Nokia candy bar shaped phones last for ever. I have all three that I have ever bought. Only reason I had to get a new one was because I switched carriers. Flip phones die very quickly. And something like an iPhone that is so thin, and the majority of is a screen...well good luck to those who do buy one.

i know all that, my concern is that you'll be stuck with a 30$ data plan and don't have the phone to use it for...

Orko: I am clumsy and drop my phone at least once a day, you should see the shape of my z550a that has barely a year... and no i don't hit it with a hammer or anything like that.
