Next goal - Mobilize people to open up the market to foreign competitors!

Wintel, Primus, CityFone, SimPRO, etc. all piggyback off the former (now Rogers) Microcell GSM network .. so like Virgin Mobile, their coverage is limited by the coverage of their parent network.

It would be nice if a true competitor came in here and setup their own seperate network, but the costs would probably in the billions which casts doubt on whether or not we will ever see this truely happen. Perhaps if the government forces some of the existing providers to divest or sell off parts of their network to foreign competitors in order to help them lay the groundwork for a larger scale network, but at this point it too seems unlikely.

I too would like that to happen (as they have done w/ hydro and local service) - however I suspect the market to be too small and too geographically vast to make it practical for a large player.

Does anyone have any experience with VONAGE

I have Vonage for my home phone service.

I have been without home phone service for 5 years and when I heard about Vonage I figured for $20 / month (500 minutes anywhere) - why not (it's not like I need/use a home phone that much anyway).

My setup @ home is actually WVOIP (wireless VOIP). I have the wireless router in the office, but I want my home phone in another room. So I purchased a wireless access point - put the access point where I want the phone, plut the Vonage VOIP router into the access point and viola!

Internet -> Cable Modem -> WiFi Router -> WiFi Access Point -> Vonage VOIP Router -> Cordless Phone

The setup works flawlessly and Vonage's features are top notch. I don't use the Vonage voice-mail, after 15 seconds of rining at home - it auto-forwards to my mobile phone's #. Also - if the internet connection goes down or the QOS (quality of service) gets too low - Vonage forwards to my mobile phone as well.

Nothing but good comments about Vonage. Expect Vonage to lower prices on their top 2 packages within the next little while.

i hav no idea .. but they do. i think they only lease what network bandwidth they need so basically they're able to get by on very little assets.
