i think pat would literally abuse me physically if i came home with a pair of $279 boots :stongue: |

It is all relative though. If you guys were bringing in a million a year after all your expenses and , and were living all nice, you would. |

I still think converse shoes are the best bet for all occasions.
Yes, all. |

I know, but I was just saying. I get so sick of hearing certain people around me saying they would never buy something because it is x amount of money. I always, without hesitation, put them in their place and remind them of this fact. |

Nah no offense taken.
They are def worth the money though. They're very well made shoes...quality materials, and fine details. And I mean, I can definitely afford it. I actually haven't been shopping in ages. I don't really think of the money, because it's not like I NEEDED them...so what's the point in thinking about the price? Either way I'm spending/wasting money on something that isn't a necessity, so I might as well get something awesome.
Now I have to get winter boots...I really need those. |

Culture is irrelevant. The cost of something and what is considered acceptable to pay for something is, and always has been, relative to your salary. That doesn't change with culture. |

were you basically saying in your earlier post that you think once people have money, they automatically find it more acceptable to spend $300 on a pair of shoes? and that the only people who would bitch about that, are people who aren't millionaires?
because that's what i understood. so i proved you wrong by mentioning french canadians. there are actually A LOT of millionaires up there who would still never spend $300 on a pair of shoes. they are generally a very practical and low-key culture no matter how much money they have.
*edit* i know i've never been there but my boyfriend does 80% of his contract work for rich french canadians who own property down here. they are extremely modest people from my experiences. |

No, my post was that the cost of an item and how "expensive" it is, is relative to your wage/salary. If you make 100k a year, spending $100 on jeans is not "outrageous" like some of the poor folk would say.
If you go from making 35k a year to making 75k a year, your lifestyle doesn't change much at first. It is a gradual change that you get more comfortable with. You don't just all of a sudden start spending $5000 on a purse. |

| My girlfriend gets pissed at me for my jeans. But I've had them for years now and they're still in great shape and fit really well. Yeah they might be 7's and have cost a lot, but I'd rather buy expensive stuff once every 5 years then cheap stuff every year. |
