Mrs. Hazard is the same way... she loaths spending money on personal items. It got to the point that I had to force her to go shopping under the rules that she had to get all new cosmetics and at least 10 ensambles at stores of my choosing (all places consistant with our income level); however, she was not allowed to look at the price tags or be present when I paid. I did this because she denies herself far too much. Long story short... she nearly killed me when the credit card bill arrived.

If you can't get it at Walmart its not worth buying.

and yea, i've been pretty much programed to be a bargain hunter only, so i'm the same as sarah and mrs. hazard. i know myself and how i am and i know that once i can afford pricey clothes, i still wont be able to do it. i'll be like, "SEVENTY DOLLARS for jeans? wtf, i'm going to marshall's and getting 5 pairs for that much:o" lol

I have a dinner/dance this Saturday and I really want to wear my sexy black Ellen Tracy stilettos, but they make me about an inch taller than my boyfriend.

I usually only wear them out with my one girlfriend who is as tall as I am, so we both look like amazon freaks, not just me.

Will take pics of dress and prospective shoes when I get home.

lmao that sounds like something that happens with us :gsmile: I don't even like spending too much money going out to dinner or anything like that. Last year for the holidays I don't even want to get into how crazy his presents to me were and he said it was because the last person I ever think about is myself, but I'm the first thing HE thinks about and he just wanted to see me smile (daaaaaaw).

He's clever enough now that he'll tell me when he needs to go clothes shopping but says he refuses to buy anything until I pick out at least one thing for myself, not on sale, too. :mad:

HAHA! My honey doesn't care if I'm taller. He says "if you got it, strut it!" and then says he gets a kick out of everyone looking at my long legs in some high stiletto's :gsmile:

I think you've made a gross generalization here. How one spends money has much more to do with one's individual values, which are largely based on early life socialization. Some people will spend whatever they have regardless of how much they have while others will spend a similar amount regardless of changes in their income and still others will spend like a drunken sailor on some things and be a total Scotsman on others. My mother is a good example... she grew up in a working-class family that had to pinch every penny. She now has a very sizeable amount of money; however, she just can't change from the frugality with which she was raised. Not all people will gradually increase their spending as their income increases such that they maintain a roughly similar income:spending ratio.

I was mostly just arguing that the number that represents the cost of an item and whether it is "expensive" is all relative to the wage/salary you are accustomed to. That isn't to say that some people, even while making tons of money, aren't going to continue to be frugal and practical. It is just that what is an acceptable amount to pay for something, is mostly unrelated to your culture and more related to the wage/salary that you were raised around.

I grew up poor as . 9 people in the family and no money for anything. Shopping at the most inexpensive stores, getting things while on sale, etc. I am accustomed to that. I never had $100 jeans when I was young, nor did I have brand name stuff. Am I a label whore? No. I just prefer better materials, which ends up costing more.

Money is meant to be spent, imo. You can't take it with you when you die, and what are you earning it for? If you have a surplus after you've paid your bills and put some in savings or investments...I think it should be spent on whatever/however you want. I'm quite a practical person too, but I love blowing cash when I can. It's all in the meaning that you attach to it.

Oh no for sure! But when you spend every day wondering if you're still gonna have a job the next day - blowing $279 on shoes ain't happening lol. I try to stash away at least 3-6 months worth of bill money so in case I lose my job I'm not like "oh I can't pay my cell phone bill because I went shopping crazy the other day".

//edit

I DO blow cash on one thing. Instead of paying off some debt - I go on vacations. I can't live without vacations. I know a girl who squirrels away money for no reason other than to store it. I squirrel it away so I can take 2-4 big vacations a year :toocool:

Plus the high heals probably bring your massive breasts even closer to his face... which is always convenient.
