According to MLS official site, Goldthwaite got sent off for 'foul language'.
When was the last time someone got a direct red card for 'foul language'? A yellow I could understand, but a direct red... Ridiculous. :mad: |

I am glad you looked that up and commented - we couldn't believe he had been redded!
To be perfectly honest, I would have sworn at that incoompetent piece of - to me that smacks of unprofessionalism. The ref knew he had ed up all game and when someone called him on it, he got all defensive and redded him off. Unbelievable.
Let's hope tonight has more of a 'MAJOR LEAGUE' Soccer feel to the reffing instead of Sunday league.... |

More ridiculous reffing tonight as the refs miss 2 blatant fouls just outside New York box. Wow. One of them should have been a second yellow for a NY defender and sent off.
Juan Pablo Angel has what, 7 goals in 6 games now?
I thought Toronto played okay, but in 2nd half didn't have the same creativity and energy. Both goals by Angel really nothing Toronto could do about. Generally, Toronto defended better than previous games and had same offensive spark, but just can't put in enough goals.
I like how Toronto works the flanks and Welsh and Obrien both had good games creating a lot. The long ball seems to work, but New York got a better grip on that in the 2nd half and Toronto had hard time trying to use centre midfielders to create.
Carl Robinson didn't do much offensively and Edu had few touches but nothing really creative.
Chris Pozniak is proving to be a good utility player.
It's like every Toronto FC game there is one really good goal
No game until the 17th... I fear the withdrawal...
Anyone else watching the Gold Cup game? It's actually pretty decent and entertaining.

Thanks for typing all that, it saves my fingers.
I have to say that I see the boys getting heartily pissed off at crap calls and it doesn't surprise me. We were the better team last night for the most part. The fan support must have been really daunting for the visitors.
I have said it before and I will say it again, MLS need to sort out their official staff - it is way beyond a joke.
Man of the match to Cunningham was well deserved, he has slotted into the team very well. |

TORONTO (CP) - Toronto FC acquired an all-star defender Wednesday, trading forward Edson Buddle to the Los Angeles Galaxy for Tyrone Marshall.
The 32-year-old Marshall, a fixture on the Jamaican national team, is in his 10th Major League Soccer season. He's played for the Colorado Rapids, Miami Fusion and the Galaxy, earning MLS defensive player of the year honours in 2004 and 2005 with L.A.
"He's a quality experienced, international defender,'' Toronto coach Mo Johnston said in a release. ". . . He has the experience within this league that we were looking for.''
Marshall isn't eligible for Sunday's game against visiting FC Dallas at BMO Field. He picked up a red card last Saturday in a game against Dallas after a hard tackle in the 89th minute left Dallas striker Kenny Cooper with a broken leg.
Johnston said the addition of Marshall helps shore up Toronto's back line - Toronto has allowed a league-high 18 goals in 10 games this season - and allows him to move Jim Brennan to left midfield, where he's more comfortable.
Buddle joins the Galaxy, which while awaiting the arrival of midfielder David Beckham, has scored only eight goals in eight games, second-fewest in MLS ahead of only Real Salt Lake.
"Edson's a quality guy, I talked to him (Tuesday) night, he's sad to go, and we're sad to see him go,'' said Johnston. "But sometimes there's a price to be paid.''
Marshall, a Florida International University product, was taken 11th overall by Colorado in the 1998 MLS college draft. He reached the 200 career games milestone in his final game of the 2006 season.
Marshall has started eight games for the Galaxy this season, scoring one goal and logging 719 minutes.
In international action, he's appeared in 59 games for Jamaica's Reggae Boyz and held down a starting spot in the lineup during the 2006 World Cup qualifying.
The 26-year-old Buddle played in 10 games with Toronto this season, starting five, and logging 481 minutes with two assists.
He was acquired from the New York Red Bulls last November in a deal that sent midfielder Tim Regan to New York after he was picked up by Toronto FC in the MLS expansion draft.
I think this is an amazing trade!
Although Buddle was playing alright I think this is much needed help on defence. |
