This is true. Its not only the case there, its everywhere around the world.
Just like Muslim Extremists who give other Muslims a bad name. So in this case because of riots etc Serbs are all given a bad name. I have many Serbian friends and they don't agree with all this nonesense. They still wish it just one Yugoslavia.
However, this is bound to happen. Look at all the many small countries gaining independence from France or England. They also faught for their independence, so these things are bound to happen. It gets bad when innocent people are stuck in between and end up getting hurt, then the blame game "SERBS ARE BUTCHERS", "MUSLIMS ARE TERRORITSTS" etcc etcc...
This is a part of the world we live in, we will always have these problems. It sucks the most when you have friends and/or family who are stuck in it because thats when it hurts the most. Sorry to hear about your family and I hope they will be safe... |

You're quite right that I don't regard historical or cultural claims as valid. If it was such a case, every cultural group would have claims all over the world, based upon historical and cultural association. It just doesn't make sense.

As a Canadian patriot, I was really ticked at the issue of Quebec separatism. Then I learned to understand their point of view, but more logically, that if a group of people living in certain area really doesn't want to part of your country, you really can't do much to keep them, short of killing them all. You can reason with them, you can offer incentives, but if these people decide that being independent is the way to go, well, what can you really do, esp. when there are international precedents recognizing self determination leading to independence?
