from what my dad's been telling me, , the whole reason over land disputes and separating is the fact that they don't wanna pay money!!

i think Serbia taxes other countries, for what i dunno, maybe protection? ?

The issue faced by this thread, the one faced by Serbs now is not a matter of scrutiny of our culture. As pointed out by others in this thread, Canada and Canadians, America and Americans, would not be any less upset if Quebec or California, respectively, were to separate.

You guys really have to stop comparing the two situations. When was the last time English Canada killed French Canadians? When was the last time French Canadians bombed some buildings in Vancouver?

To answer that, French Canadian "traitors" were executed or squashed in the mid of the 19th century (Louis Riel and the Patriots uprising).

Bombing Vancouver or anything like that never happened, but an anglo mob actually destroyed the canadian parlimant in the 1840s when it was in Montreal, that was the latest and harshest thing of importance to ever happen in my opinion in english-french relations, the 70s incidents were nowhere near of that importance, a bunch of isolated 5 or 10 wackos wrecking havoc creating a mass hysteria in english canada which was blown out of proportions by the presence of the canadian army in our streets.

Thats a while go, actually Quebec-Canada relations set an example worldwide of behaved minority-majority relationship within a state. Catalonia in Spain followed what Quebec did in many aspect including a version of their own of bill 101.

There's absolutely no comparison between the massive happening in the kosovo/Serbia relations, nothing even close.

I would like to know exactly what your emotional involvement is in this whole topic. We know that Tiesto Sux has family there. What is your involvement?

Why do you care exactly? I lived there for many years, was born there, but have all my direct family in all three regions; Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia. I do not believe that I am looking at this entirely inobjectively.

Reading comprehension. I never said you said he was involved but you were asking him to answer for his country's past. And telling him not to bring up stuff because his people are just as bad. Are you denying that?

Actually, I told Anita not to bring the past, and I told Special K not to bring up the past. He and I continued the conversation from that context. I never asked Ivan to answer for anything. And in any case, I'm at the point of certainty that you have said absolutely nothing of value to the context that we were conversing under, except to nitpick at specific grammatical and semantic point. So, lets move on, shall we?

Again, you completely missed the point. True, you've stated the most obvious fallacy in the comparison. The point was brought up merely as a reference to why there is such an emotional outcry regarding this situation, and as stated by EvilTree for example, the first reaction to a separatist Quebec is that of anger.

*sigh* Anyways, I do not have the patience now to write a multi-page reply attempting to explain all the complexities of this situation. You've given your generalized (plz don't take this offensively) opinion and freely stated that you are not entirely familiar with the situation. I have, to the best of my ability, attempted to answer your questions, with enough background and some analogies to explain. At this point, you must have the ability to objectively understand and comprehend the last 500 or so years of history, otherwise there just is not a point in you continuing to comment. Or anyone else for that matter that is merely looking objectively at one situation, yet for all their objectivity fail to see the long and ever continuing events that have led up to it.

Maybe you should yourself take a step back and be objective.

Reading comprehension. I never said you said he was involved but you were asking him to answer for his country's past. And telling him not to bring up stuff because his people are just as bad. Are you denying that?

you should really read up on history of kosovo. because if you dont know much about it, asking whats his or mine or any Serbs emotional involvement in kosovo is ignorant. and im telling you this with all due respect, please dont get me wrong.

i dont know why did this conversation took such a nasty turn. but calling this karma is... i really dont wanna comment on it cause it will get really nasty. you think your side is right, im 100% sure that my side is right and lets leave it at that. we can argue about it for years and bring up all these arguments (valid on both sides) and at the end of the day we will still disagree.

one of my closest friends is croatian. i call him my brother, he calls me his brother and we get along awesome. but we never, ever talk about our situation, we tried in the past and got just nasty. you know why??

cause just like me, he respects everything and everybody but above all he LOVES his.

so please take that in consideration when it comes to this thread. im just asking that. because, as you can see, if we all take off our gloves this will get really really dirty

This is wrong. Riel never represented French Canadian interests. He represented that of Metis. (not to mention he was a complete lunatic)

As for the Patriotes, some of them were involved in armed insurrection against the Crown. (but by no means I'm not sympathetic for some of their causes)
