I think a huge part of the conflict in this thread is that a lot of people here don't understand the whole "fatherland" concept. I've lived in Canada for 17 years and I have never met a true "Canadian" patriot (not saying they don't exist so plz don't jump all over my ass about this)
ojczyzna... otadzbina... otechestvo... rodina... these kinds of words don't even translate literally into english because these concepts don't exist.
Defending your nation at all costs... crying at its ruin... watching it collapse and feeling like a part of you is dying. That doesn't exist here. |

Why would you even assume that when I say hole I mean how the country looks? Yes it's beautiful, it always has been and it always will be. What I'm talking about is the crowds of younger generations going elsewhere because there is no future for them there.
As for Sarajevo, we talked with a family member just last week, and she filled us in as to the latest goings on there. How do car bombs sound? Or how about an alarming rate of suicides? How about people doing attrocious things to young kids? How about the even further segregation of muslims and serbs? How about not being able to buy the most simplest of things (oil costing 4 euro when the average salary weekly is something like 12-15 euro). |

Where did you exactly read that this situation stopped after 1389? It did not, tension and troubles were around before then, and have continued up to this day! I'd love to hear what you have to say regarding the lengthy reply I posted. Oh, and do try your best to keep it within the context of the thread, and move away from your narrow-minded approach of only arguing with a given format of an argument presented to you. What do you want, people to talk and argue only along terms that you undertand and agree to? |

What are you talking about? This is not the way "I see it", this is the way it is down there... don't even try to deny the fact that so many people are leaving, hell why are you here?!? I'm sure it's for the same reason I am... if things stayed the way they were, I would have never come, but clearly it isn't so now is it.
There's nothing I or you can do, ignorance is difficult to combat, because people don't change that easily. But if they want to bury themselves in their ignorance, I'm not gonna stand in the way by any means.
I just gave you some hands on UP TO DATE information as to what really goes on, things you don't read about, so don't even pull that .

Blind patriotism only means more violence.
History has proven this time and time over.
Nationalism is an emotional response, rarely logical one. Just look at people who followed fascism and ultranationalists. They all wave the flag too, and all the wrongs they've done are in the name of the fatherland or motherland. And so many people take up arms to defend a govt that is corrupt, and evil, all in the name of the fatherland.
I quite understand why the Serbs are upset over Kosovo. I'd be pissed if I was a Serb and someone took away land that pretty much defined Serb nationhood.
But patriotism and nationalism isn't going to change the fact that Kosovo isn't Serbia |
