If you had been following the news, you would know Belgium is on the verge of imploding because of the flemmish minority and chronic constitutional instability in this (sorry belgians) failed state.
|
Nah. It's not as bad as the media makes it out to be. Every so often I get in a panic and call my dad (who works for the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) asking him if what I read in the papers/saw on TV, etc, is true. He always laughs at me and tells me to calm down. This "conflict" between the Walloons and the Flemmish has been going on for ages but it is doubtful the separatist movement will ever have enough of a majority to actually separate us.
(I do agree about our constitutional instability though :p No offence taken lol Hopefully this will eventually remedy itself) |

I AM NOT CANADIAN. Or raised Canadian (not that it would be a bad thing).
I am Eastern European. Raised the same way as many of the people here.
Seriously, don't tell me I don't understand. My family was just as oppressed and the rest of yours. Let me guess, that doesn't make my opinion any more valid.
Can you, in a few sentences, summerize what the hell you are arguing about? |
Listen, I'm sorry that I passed judgment on you, that was not my intent. This thread is getting out of control and its hard to keep track of every detail that's been mentioned. However while you are from Poland, and understand an eastern-european mentality, Poland and Balkans are two different things.
The point that I am getting at is that no matter how hard I try to make you understand the reasons behind an age old conflict, you already have a set of values that will simplify a situation in to a right and wrong category (its only human). It's impossible to explain to you why the Balkans are they way they are in a single thread, I'm from that area, I've spent my whole life trying to understand its complexities and I'm still learning.
Personally, I want to get you involved in understanding the issues that arise from these problems, but there seems to be this cross-cultural wall that we hit, time and time again. This results in frustration on both sides, you feel like I'm treating you like an idiot because you dont know everything that's happened in the last 500 years in the history of the Balkans, and I feel like you're judging a culture with foreign values that are insensitive to our history and culture.
This I suppose is no ones fault, I'm glad you got at least something out of this thread. I know this wasnt exactly a "few sentences" but this is the best way I could put it.
::edit::
i hope this makes sense, or maybe i've missed the issue completely lol |

I LOVE THOSE THINGS!
This sweetheart of a Croatian girl brought me to a restaurant who made those with this white garlic yogurt sauce if I am not mistaken.
It was so good, I had to buy a frozen box of those from a local deli. |
