Kosovo has become something like 95% Albaninas and the rest are Serbs....they have taken over something that is not theirs hence why the overruled us and got what they wanted!!!

Well it wasn't any better under Serbian rule now was it?

the UN security council, as far as i know, has yet to recognize Kosovo as a country. I think any motions made toward it have been put down.

however, what i think is the issue is the way the issue has been treated in the media and politically.
yes, Kosovo has been recognized by several countries, however, that is illegally infringing on Serbia's sovereignty.
Marches of celebration do nothing more than enforce a muted acknowledgement, one fully outside of European and internaitonal rules.

International law has no meaning, if all parties do not agree to adhere to it, or there is some mechanism to punish nations that does not comply.

UN is NOT some sort of overlord organization over independent, sovereign nations. It only has power, only when the member nations give it power. In international politics, there is no higher political organization above that of a sovereign, independent nation. Don't get ideas that UN resolutions mean .
quote:

Consequence? Kosovo will probably gain independence mainly because of the massive push that has already been made without the proper legal proceedings to go through.

This is already a fait accompli, because I doubt anyone is willing to expend much resources to prevent Kosovo independence.
quote:

From the looks of it, Serbia's NOT willing to go down without a fight, and Russia is most likely going to do everything in its power to 'legally' prevent this.

I doubt Russia will think it's worth going all out to prevent Kosovo independence. Oh, Russia will probably veto all Security Council resolutions recognizing Kosovo, but a veto is just words. US and China uses it like toilet paper too.

Serbia does have allies, mostly those nations with separatist movements but their combined influence will not outweigh that of US and rest of nations that will recognize Kosovo.

Kosovo's independence was guaranteed when Serbia kept Milosevic in power since breakup of Yugoslavia, and his shenanigan trying to subdue Kosovo by military force in late 90s and had his peepee slapped.

International politics is heavily influenced by public perception and media, and Serbia looks like the bad guy since the 90s. (just look at the movies. lol)

same argument could be made for Romania and Transylvania being cut-up or given to Hungary...although it's less likely.

what i'm really curious about are the factual details. from what i've read, this is fairly illegal, and it needs the security council's vote of approval (...however weak its power may be).

its completely illegal but it doesnt matter. what lots of people dont know is that albania and kosovo are european colombia and albanian lobby in the usa is extremely strong. so it really doesnt matter what will SC's vote, its done deal. but its far from over.

i dont think many people understands the magnitude of this. whole world is all gung ho about war on terrorism but Serbs are not allowed to defend themselves from those same terrorist in our own country.

check out al quaida training camps in albania and kosovo.

so what do you or we do about that double standard ???

Yea I was watching on CNN as they attacked the Croatian embassy and burned our flag. They did a bit of the same to the Bosnian one.
