Who said anything about things being ok over there? If anything I said that things are not ok....anyway what does this have to do with Kosovo? Why does that bother you so much, do you have family in Kosovo? If they want to seperate, let them, they will be the poorest country in the world, right behind albania..why waste your energy when there is nothing neither me nor you can do.
I dont have family in Serbia, but i do in Bosnia...what does it matter if I am serbian or not? I am a Yugoslavian...but if you want to really know, yes i am serbian.

No/Minor Internal Conflict - by this I mean no civil unrest related to separation of a part of a country into it's own state. General gang warfare/Taliban/what have you not included.

Expected:
Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Sweden, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Bulgaria, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Hungary.
NONE, no countries on the list above have any SERIOUS problems. By serious I mean death, murder, fighting, guns (with a much older exception of UK)
Countries against this whole shebang:
AZERBAIJAN - in deep crap with it's own separatist movement.
CHINA - See Tibet et all.
Spain - it's own separatist movement
Romania -- not sure why...
Cyprus - has problems (thought not as serious)
Slovakia Has a significant minority population as well. This would open the floodgates
GEORGIA - Same...
RUSSIA - Huge problems with run-away states.
SRI LANKA - Obvious problems of it's own
So now, you see, the countries that DO support Kosovo have no problems with Breakaway states. Imagine IF California wanted to separate, what would happen? Nothing, right? US would never let that happen.
So wtf is going on? |
I can't really comment as I don't know too much about the situation but from my perspective if a country's majority is of another ethnicitiy/cultural and social background and is wanting to seperate why not? They should do so WITHOUT declaring outright independence but take steps to move towards it if the other minorities within the country have issues. This way it can hopefully be done in a fair method without all the chaos.
As for Cyprus, we gained independence in 60/61 from Britain and the minority in the country are the Turks. The troubles happened when certain parties within the country (paramilitary types from Greece who had helped free the country from the Uk) had continued to try and unify Cyprus with Greece despite our independence. This caused tensions between the two ethnic groups, Greek/Cypriots and Turkish/Cypriots, hence Turkey invading (i the interests of protecting the minority) and my parents coming here.
That's like Serbia sending troops into Kosovo (its own country) to protect its minority. Or like Canada sending troops into Quebec to protect the Anglophones if Quebec were to seperate no? (I could be dead wrong on the analogies but it's just what I see similarly.)
I agree with stylez's post as well, I mean I don't go completely ballistic because someone says something that a Greek/Cypriot did that's completely uncalled for. Hell if that was done in Cyprus to the Greek paramilitary types to maintain independence instead of unification (Damned junta) and Makarios wasn't assassinated then mebbe there wouldn't be the situation the country is in today. |

Now that I have re-read her post...i dont know if she is refering to you...or if the kosovo issue is what is "getting on her nerves" or "bothering her"
Cuz i didnt understand what she meant by questions below...i mean i do understand what htey mean...but dont understand why she wrote them |
