Never eat right after cardio. Heres why!

Your body temperature spike to the 100s which means your body goes into emergency mode. What this means is that it doesnt digest any food. Its a total waste of everything to do it. Thats why you wait that long, get back to homeostasis then continue on ;)

No matter when you do cardio, and if you have anything in your stomach, does not change the fact it will take approximately 20 minutes of moderate cardio before you even BEGIN to burn fat storage. Before that, look at it as only calories being consumed. Some will say when doing cardio on an empty stomach your body will use muscle as energy since your body is depleted of carbohydrates.

I saw the best results on an empty stomach, but if you're looking to put on muscle mass it could be detrimental in the long run. If you're just looking to lose weight and get conditioned, go on an empty stomach and do not eat until one hour after doing cardio. Or you can take a protein shake prior to cardio.

The way I look at it now is, after doing cardio I can have another meal for the day, since all I basically burned was calories. :D

ye but what about the HIIT routine, it is done in 10 - 30 minutes and has found to be very effective for fat loss?

that's a good point. you want to have food in your system when working out, but not while its digesting...its probably best to give it a good hour of digestion time before you work out.

also, when i was younger, i would wake up at 4:30 and lift weights before school. it was a pain in the ass, but i would still do it so that i could come home and lift after school too. even when i did that, i'd actually wake up at about 4am drink a shake and not lift until 4:30am...so even then i still needed something in my system when working out.

i find gatorade and whey right before a workout makes me very energized for a workout, and this is the only stuff i intake in the day before my workout

40-50 minutes of moderate cardio far exceeds HIIT in fat burning capabilities. You can kill yourself doing sprints and the like all you want, you're still not burning fat until ~20 minutes in.

well go to www.exrx.net and read the results on the study of HIIT versuslonger endurance training, they would prove otherwise

Vigilante
Sounds OK to me, but everybody is different.

I don't even do cardio in the gym....i just stretch and then workout. I alternate muscle groups between days, because your muscles need time to recuperate.

All my cardio comes from soccer training and a soccer game every week.

I honestly don't know if it is exactly right for you, but lets see what the "experts" have to say.

what type of weights? what type of cardio?

vigilante's way of cardio is nearly enough, a few games of sport a week like soccer or something can be really effective and alot more enjoyable.

btw. that facethejury site is just too funny

cardio before weights = ty weight work out. if by warming up you do some jumping jacks thats fine, but I prefer to save energy and just do a warm up set that targets the muscle im about to use with super low weights and 15-20 reps just to get blood flowing. Then stretch, then start the routine with the bottom of the pyramid.

Cardio and weights the same day...not a huge fan. Use the exercise I gave Corinne :p

With any good work out cardio or weights, you tap yourself out, your body basically only sends "HELP!" beacons to so many parts of your body for repair. Thats why 8 hours in the gym doesnt work or everyone would be in the gym 8 hours a day and get massive results quickly.

You tire out, you stop healing. Going and doing cardio is basically a waste of time.

Split them into seperate days, and do the weights as hard as you can and then the next day do a killer cardio workout.

Dont worry about bulking up with those 15 rep sets. Women dont bulk. I have some chicks in my gym who are practically screaming doint same setsxreps im doing and all they get is toned. You lack the requisite muscle structure and chemicals.

basically: Do what youre gonna do. If its weights, do weights. if its cardio, do cardio. Dont mix unless youre halfassing your weights, which you shouldnt be.

Also, tell Corinne I need to revise the workout I gave her.

you can do weights and cardio on the same day, theres no harm in it, as long as you intake enough food before it. a good idea is weights in morning and cardio in the evening
