i suppose my method of training, i usually only aim for 12 reps, doesn't really support maxing and that kinda ...but what do you think about that? any thoughts on how i can get that strength back? my friend is having the same problem. i mean we both lost a lot of body fat and we just can't lift a lot of weight anymore.

hi there, i've been training since early march and have seen great results with using Plyometrics and changing my sets and reps...

if you're interested in sheer strength and toning (rather than mass with not much definition):

You should definitely get into training with plyometrics. if you dont know what this is...go to http://www.weightsnet.com/Docs/plyometrics.html . it is the sort of training that athletes do to increase their strength by increasing the speed that their muscles contract. this will make you bigger and cut, but not beefy.

As far as reps and sets. I do 15 reps or a couple more...just as long as the last two reps are a bitch. Then, add 2.5 or 5 lbs to the machine and do 12 reps. Don't add more weight for the last set and do 10. i've found that increasing your weights for your sets really helps you lift more over time.

good luck!!!

The best way to gain strength is high intensity, low rep exercises. Keep it simple, stick with DB/BB exercises like Bench, Squat, DL's, etc. If you don't normally do squats, once you start doing them on a consistent basis you will see an enormous gain of mass throughout your entire body.

we should keep the daily log in this thread of what we are doing...and be honest about cheating on diet, missed days, etc...

Gearing up for this upcoming month, I went all out this weekend and ate a bunch of bad stuff. Yesterday, I swear to you that I ate a 4 pound calzone.

I'm usually pretty good about staying strict with my diet but, I always reserve Saturdays as my treat days; makes for a nice little reward for being dilligent all week.

/me is promptly slapped by gf looking over shoulder

But seriously, here are my last two days in a nutshell:

Wed AM

30 min cardio

Wed PM

3 hours basketball (holy shipwreck was I beatdown afterwards)

Today AM

30 min cardio

Today PM

Delts/Traps

Here's another secret I'll let you in on to keep you motivated to hit the gym: Cool New Shoes! I always have good workouts when I'm rocking a new pair of kicks at the gym. It's just like how your car is faster after you wash it and shine the tires. :D

You know what's weird - the last 3 weeks of the summer I completely blew off the gym and probably put on a good 10 pounds before going back to college. Since being back, I've been doing 45 min - 1 hour of cardio 6 days a week and lifting 3 days a week. Maybe it's the 20,000 women on campus that give me an extraordinary amount of motivation. Whatever it is, I can't wait to do cardio every day, which has NEVER happened before, lol.
