Well I just got back from my visit to the disaster zone. I dressed up with a hi-vis vest and strapped both my cameras over my shoulders and everybody thought I was an official journalist. I walked straight into the media tent, got chatting with some news crews and even scored some free food!
Epic win IMHO :D
Anyway, here's some pics I took...

WHEN Tess Campbell and Quinton Gardiner need food, they don't stroll the aisles of a grocery store or go to a cafe - they forage through a bin.
The Hobart couple are freegans, also known as dumpster divers.
They're part of a worldwide anti-consumerist movement that has been around since the 1960s and which in recent years has had a surge in popularity with Tasmanians.
"Communities" of freegans in Hobart and Launceston are raiding skips behind suburban grocers, bakers, supermarkets, and hardware stores in search of discarded food, clothing, household goods and electrical items.
As well as making huge savings, freegans say they are reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and highlighting the wastefulness of affluent societies. |
