Care to be more specific? 'Creative' in what fields?

Music mainly.

"How's the serenity?"

hahaha it's actually insane, just rewatching it, how much of it IS a part of aussie slang!

i don't know if the film started it, or simply reflected it, but it's awesome.

"suffer in your jocks" got the biggest nostalgia lols from me :stongue:

edit: the problem lately with awesome swearing slang is that these days and **** are considered acceptable... in the old days you had to really be creative to swear, now you can just go straight for the most offensive words without worrying...

about music: australia actually has a lot going for it right now... if you were talking a few years ago i might agree, but especially in terms of indie, and electronica stuff there's heaps happening, people like presets (tho they died now thankfully) and cut copy are doing well overseas, not to mention temper trap and empire of the sun...

the more serious sides of EDM are really kicking off too, lots of aus talent starting to appear :)

And where (in the world) would you say all the 'creativity' in music is, right now?
Lilith
There's no real movement as far as old fashioned, dumb supersaw 'pop trance' goes, its pretty much dead and buried as a genre.
Psy trance, there's a couple of artists floating around which aren't too bad, actually as a whole Australia produces some fairly good harder edge music. D&B, Jungle, dirty Electro, proper 'I hate people' Hardcore techno and that sort of stuff still gets made here by some competent artists.

lulz, watching the castle right now.

See, that would solve the whole immigration thing, you come to the country, you watch the movie and if you 'kind of get it', then you can stay.
If you don't get it, they send you back.

I'm not talking about right now, my point was made in relation to the last 30 years or so.

no it wasn't. Your point was made in the present tense.

And the level of success that Australian bands have had over the past 30 years would probably disagree with you there as well.

true true!

also forgot to make him explain exactly what sucess means: sucess in US, or internationally, or quality of the bands/artists?

there have been heaps in every field at least compared to other countries which aren't hegemonic imperialists like the US...

GST is a big piss-off if you're running a small business. Not just the extra tax, but the extra ing paperwork. That said, I never ran a business before it was introduced, so meh.

:stongue:

You drongo. Before GST, everything was taxed at different rates and that meant that you had to work out tax separately for every individual field in your business. These days you just put 10% across the board. That was the main reason GST was introduced: to reduce paperwork. Which it did, quite admirably. Also, it's not an "extra tax", it was just a standardisation of then existing tax rates.

The whole team are a bunch of knobs. Gone are the glory days of champions like Gilchrist and Warnie. I'm going to the coming series in Ireland with two mates, and we're going to spend the whole match sledging Siddle. In fact, we'll probably be supporting Ireland.

100+ names there, and that's a pretty piss-ant list.

Your friend is a moron. What does that have to do with Australia?
Tangil
I'm talking about right now and over the past 30 years or so - creativity in general.

Domesticated that list just reaffirms my point - Lewie Day at 8, Steve Strangis at 18?? lol wtf are you on? At least get some of Melbourne's better djs like Dave Pham, Mike Callander, Gavin Keitel, Ransom, Agent 86, NHJ on there. That said I am unfamiliar with Australia's dnb scene and it looks like you've got a lot of them on there.
Anyway, I'm not just talking about edm, although it does happen to highlight my point.

Who do we have apart from Icehouse, Crowded House and INXS? Things start to trail off pretty quickly: Severed Heads, Infusion, Qua, Black Cab etc. these groups are good but there not big. And yes I am aware of how strong Australia was with prog breaks.

Look at Iceland, with a population of 300,000+ and they've got Bjork, Sigur Ros and Emiliana Torrini.
