Not to be offensive, but that looks way more like a bald Ian a few years ago.

Did anyone else see the "Desperate Remedies" episode on The Australian Story the other week? http://www.abc.net.au/austory/speci...ies/default.htm

I am all for people seeking alternative therapies, at the end of the day it is their body and their choice. But fark me, I've seen cases like this working where i do & have heard the most astounding answers when I ask them why they turned their back in Western medicine.

For those who didn't see the story- Lady diagnosed with a curable rectal cancer, her husband was an environmental toxicologist. They both turned to homeopathy to "cure the cancer". That didn't work, she presented to hospital (weighing 35kg) with a perforated bowel which is life threatening. The homeopath told her not to have surgery (she does have surgery), then the homeopath phoned her and told her to sign something which would absolve her from any responsibility. Lady dies and it goes to the coroners court.

Coroners verdit- Australia needs to regulate unregistered health practitioners, including homeopaths.

That's ed. We get some much thrown at us in terms of regulation and red tape which makes it difficult to get a lot of crucial medicine out into the market, and these wits with herbal and homeopathic medicines go unregulated. Didn't they recently find that 9/10 of those products had false marketing?

Not sure, haven't seen much about it. A quick google search of the case has lots of newspaper articles. This is what scares me
quote:
Under the pact, they agreed that only alternative medicine would be used and Dr Dingle would then write a book about curing his wife's cancer.

Mrs Brown said that under the agreement, Dr Dingle would look after his wife's vitamin and antioxidant treatment and Ms Scrayen would deal with homeopathy treatments and diet.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/cancer-death-puts-homeopathy-in-dock/story-e6frg6nf-1225877659069

and this
quote:
A CORONER has found that "misinformation and poor science" led to the death of a Perth woman who refused conventional treatment for her cancer.

Delivering his findings on Friday, West Australian Coroner Alastair Hope said homeopath Francine Scrayen ``was not a competent health professional'' and had given ``dangerous advice'' to Mrs Dingle when treating her.

Dr Dingle, who was a guest presenter on the ABC's Can We Help? program, had written papers arguing that chemotherapy was ineffective in treating cancer.

Mr Hope said Dr Barnes' suggestion Mrs Dingle use vitamin C and Carnivora to potentially stop the tumour growing and Dr Tabrizian's failure to examine her properly was enough reason to refer them to the board.

But the coroner said the decisions on treatment were ultimately made by Mrs Dingle herself.

Astounding, so the two GP's she went to were also put under investigation.
