I always liked the aussie dem's, its a real shame they just sort of imploded :( |
yeah, i blame trance nutter! i bet he's got his dirty SA hands in there somewhere...
stott despoja is easily my favourite politican that has ever held a seat in Oz. she was so articulate, really bright, and i agreed with her positions more often than anyone i can think of. |

Natasha was wonderful, sadly the likes of inspirational, young politicians are distinctly lacking.
You know its bad when they realise no one will watch the debate and have to reschedule against a b-grade cooking show... |

Mr X is the closest to Stott-Despoja nowadays. He was great in state parliament and he's doing pretty well in federal, he actually gets done which is pretty amazing, especially for an independent. He actually listens to constituents as well. He's actually everything the others aren't.
Plus he hates scientology.
Unfortunately I think he's only 1/2 way through his term, so I still need to find someone else to vote for in the senate.
Yeah no way i can vote for libs with Abbott, theres no difference between libs and labor now (but at least labor aren't putting up Nicole Cornes here this year), greens are just a bunch of wits. |

that's pretty much all i know about nick. though i have this inkling there's something he's said that disagrees with me, but i can't think of what it might be. |

Xenophon is a bit 'off' in that he's heavily focused on outlawing gambling, which is I guess admirable in a way, but ultimately futile in somewhere like Australia where they'll bet on two snails crawling for the lack of a horse.
Abbott is essentially a clone of Rudd in fairly much every way except has a thing for fitness and Rudd had yellow fever. |

not quite right. He's against poker machines (especially in pubs), not gambling in general. He got elected to state on the No Pokies platform, but once he was in he did develop other platforms as well.
His other main focus is the Murray River, for example he refused to pass the economic stimulus until Labor provided money to help try to fix it (which they did). He does have some others as well but I've forgotten them right at this moment.
But other than that he is more of a generalist, as close to keeping the bastards honest as anyone has been for a long time (even when the Dems still existed). |

you cant vote for tony. the guy is a conservative catholic, global warming denier, economics muppet (despite his BE). |
not to mention a fumbling retard, at least on intellectual/political matters... even if he looks good at press conferences the man is not fit to dictate national policy...
do i need to repost the 730 report video interview of kerry vs tony?? :stongue:
i think it's the only thing stopping liberals luckily, although really i cant tell the difference between libs and labs anymore :conf: |

and that's the real kicker isn't it? i (correctly) predicted after labor's dominant win in 2007 that this would force the libs closer to the centre (which is exactly what turnbull did) but i didnt predict phoney tony pulling them back to the right. and the ALP still have the memory of children overboard, which cost them that election, so what we're seeing now is "me too" from the ALP.
even the most optimistic political mind couldn't help but be filled with abject apathy when faced with the selection we have in august :(
the only thing i'll be able to enjoy during the election is family first getting ed in the arse (if it happens). or maybe the greens will hold the balance in the senate, and we can stop this ing stupid net filter. |

completely agree man, everyone's so weak in aus politics, but this is crazy, the democrats dropped off, and I'm really hoping the green's don't do the same thing in the next 5-10 years..
At least Brown was adamently stating that this had nothing at all to do with policy, and it's true, going solo last time ed them over and gave so much to family first, but i hope it doesn't change and they start forming centre-left blocs or something... :nervous: |

It was sort of a pity in a way the Libs got rid of Malcolm Turnbull, he certainly wasn't very charismatic, slightly forgettable, but he was considerably more professional and intellectual. He might be Catholic as well but he openly disagreed with the church on a number of things like abortion and stem cell research, which we wont see with Abbott. |

yeah exactly, he was pretty much the same as rudd :p
man i can't believe how much the media still hates rudd though, front page of the age today about how he snubbed his opposition or something...
leave the guy alone, he's already been thrown out of government in a coup, what more do you need to say about him :stongue: |
