light the fuse summed it up nicely above, but it's a 2-party system, the party in power now has had a major overhaul WHILE IN OFFICE, and the guy in the video is her opposition in the upcoming election...

If the chaos from this hostile takeover of power from within their own party, this guy might be able to weasle over the new chick and become PM... wtf is going to happen after that is anyone's guess...

did any other ozzies watch rudd's final speech? full of bitterness, depression and anger... almost crying, said stuff like "my wife is awesome, i don't know why she ever married me", "how funny is it I'm still the prime minister even though i'm not the head of the labor party (for a couple more hours at that stage)", and was saying things about this is thanks for him beating the recession in aus...

i actually didn't mind rudd, makes me sad to see him go... i honestly don't think he's any worse than howard, but he tried a lot harder and strove for more... and now he'll be remembered as one of the worst... bit lame imo.

hopefully gillard reverses some of his retarded policies, such as the internet filter though ffs! :whip:

PKC, who says Turnbull can't be placed as the leader of the opposition again? Just you watch, they will stick him in because he can easily take on Gillard while Abbott may struggle of a personal level.

As for "democracy", have you all forgotten who our leader is? That's right, it's not the PM but the Queen which makes it a false democracy.
In the Westminster system you're voting for a party not a leader, despite the fact that the general uneducated about politics populace seem to vote based on a single person who generally has no singular power to do anything without not only government, but opposition backing.

The federal ALP is turning into NSW ALP and we all know it can't get much worse than that. When's the election so we can get rid of them?

As for which side directly compares to the Dems and Reps in the states, none of them do.

Democracy as a political process only gives you one right- the right to vote. All the other things tacked onto it people misconstrue as 'democracy' (human rights, free speech etc) aren't actually part of the democratic process, they're constitutional process.

I hope she isn't such an far left winger like krudd...

who says? i do :p

there is no way that turnbull has the numbers to run against tony when the polls have phoney tony relatively well-placed. it would also reek of liberal party instability and nobody would be prepared to risk that this close to an election. labor on the other hand, didn't have as much to lose.

turnbull doesn't want to take charge with only a few months to bring home the win. it'd be political suicide if he ran and lost. turnbull may well lead the libs to an election in 4 year's time, but not now.

yeah, but that's just a technicality which has had absolutely NO impact on politics in australia since 1901. its a technicality that should one day be fixed, but the governor general is australia's real head of state for anything that matters (which is almost nothing anyway).

i think that's a little simplistic. pretending for a moment that factional politics played no part- was rudd's knifing a good decision? considering the PM's (un)popularity and policy blunders, i would argue that it was. it gives the ALP time to change tack (should it choose to do so) and presents an opportunity to refine or replace existing policy initiatives.

i think the parliamentary system is great in that it presents an opportunity to remove those at the top, mid-term. factions or not, everyone was/is unhappy with the ALP for one reason or another and the PM has to take ultimate responsibility for that.

PKC - You're just not as bitter about state politics as we are over here. Ask Lilith, she can tell you just how bad it really is over here.

Egos - Bow down you ALP peasant! :stongue:

:p

haha, am definitely bitter about state politics but probably for different reasons! :stongue:

I think in any other country I've been in, if they had to put up with NSW state Labor shennanigans there would have been a riot. Anyone embezzling that amount of money and completely bollocking up every civil project they touch, gets them dragged out into the street and beaten to death with axe handles.

Like socks, politicians need to be changed frequently otherwise they get rotten and nasty.
Fledz
Screw axe handles, we're ready to use the actual axes!
