i think the exact opposite. i think its great a PM can be removed if they aren't up to snuff. i think its a fantastic component of parliamentary democracy. this provides the ALP with an opportunity to have a change in policy direction and maybe win back voters like me, who wouldn't vote labor in a pink fit atm.

technically speaking, you didn't elect Rudd either.

so really,

no

didn't i? :conf:

i don't like the powerlessness of this essentially oligarchical rule at all... i realise that most people shouldn't be able to have any say about politics, but it's annoying how hypocritical 'democracy' is, and how little power anyone really has over who leads the country.

nope. You voted for your local member who in turn voted for Kevin rudd to lead their party. unless of course you’re actually in kev’s electorate?

edit: and how exactly is this "hypocritical" democracy? It’s the perfect example of democracy- the populace hate kev therefore kev was (potentially) removed from office. How’s that hypocritical? :conf:

Rudd hasnt been that bad imo - he can come accross as smarmy and i think its fallen apart because he didnt take abbott seriously (but well neither can i) and now hes gunna pay the piper.

i reckon gillard will make exactly the same decisions rudd would have made in 99% of situations so it wont make that much difference other than labor wins the next election.
pkcRAISTLIN
so there you have it, australia's first female PM.
Light The Fuse
a win for rangas everywhere

I'm just having a cranky stab, and rage at change :gsmile:

my last point was self-defeating obviously (i want total control, but nobody else to have it :p )

I just think it's funny how unfree the freest peoples in the world are sometimes, that's what i meant by hypocrisy: Fighting for free elections... how little power anyone really has over government etc... again though, self-defeating since i don't think most people should have control of government :p

Now i'm just worried that this will prove a really huge boon for abbot...

did you guys see him on the 730 report? The whole 10 minute or so interview was breathtaking, but this is the best bit of it...

this man can NOT become prime minister... :nervous:

new leaders always get a decent boost in the polls, even alexander downer rated really well for a short while as liberals leader. labour will call the election in the middle of that honeymoon, after a massive campaign to convince us everything was kevin rudd's fault, even though gillard was right in there on all the unpopular decisions

never figured why they decided to call this mining tax a tax. cos everyone hates a new tax. make it a change in the royalties and it would be far harder to campaign against.

Wait, that guy is going to be the new PM??

I don't follow Australian politics at all, so I have no idea about anything about the guy, but he seems like a complete idiot.
Light The Fuse
hes leader of the opposition - kind of the republican party if you compare it to the usa model. He is a total wit who is stuck living in 1863 imo. We just got our labor(democrat) Prime Minister sacked and our first female prime minister -labor- instated - main reason being that she has a lot more chance of winning the next election, which will be within the next 6-8 months or so
