No. It's based on a Korean film, originally called "The Tale of the Two Sisters", which in turn is based on a folk Korean story.

Well all ghost stories are generally the same, the major difference between eastern and western ones being that Asian ghost stories tend to involve a haunted family or close relationship because they are so socially-oriented, and western tales tend to involve haunted possessions or places because they are so materialistic and possessive.
And I just made all of that up, but I probably had you going there, huh? |
