Balmoral looks nice, their median price range is roughly 500k-1m less than equivalents in Sydney. Mmm, in fact some of them are dirt cheap for what they are.
It's a nice suburb. Hawthorne, Bulimba and Balmoral all are. Just go for high ground :p

Hah, everyone will be bolting for the high ground! Give it a few months and prices will probably be sky-rocketing and by the time I sold a house here (because getting the money out of my bank manager isn't going to happen, quickly) I'd roll up to the party late and probably in time for it to depreciate slowly. :(

Goldfish Queenslanders have short memories, just get some riverfront and insure it well. Suncorp automatically insure for flooding (I wonder how long until that changes, lol).
Make your killing, walk away.

Ah man, so many waterways around there.
Best of luck to your family mate. Not a fun time at all.
At least the military is on the ball now. They took their time, but if your fam is cut off, they'll be choppering food and necessary in there pretty quickly.

Cheers. They're a lot more fortunate than a lot of others up here. Being on a peninsula, the only road in has been cut by the flooding of the Esk river, will be for a few days apparently. I heard the towns main supply of foods etc. is coming in via boats on the Clarence river.

I used to work up there. It's crazy seeing Maclean, Iluka, Yamba, Grafton flooded when I can remember standing there while it's all dry :wtf:

Yeah, I've been going there to chill when I'm on holidays throughout my whole life and have never seen it flood, although I'm kind of not surprised because of all the different waterways around the area like Stu mentioned and also the fact that the Clarence is huge around the mouth there.
I also remember the bushfire they also had close by quite a few years back.
