dear stan,
they're h4xing the eagle altogether. it might work out alright for pilots, considering the scope clause/flow-through agreement. the AA/APA just cockblocked 30+ of eagle's canadair 70-seater options, too, so i wonder how that will come into play. what the eagle's going to do about the 30% of the managerial workforce "on loan" from AA proper, i don't know.

ps. i'm not working for awhile :happy2:
pps. release from AMR to employees :
| quote: | Today AMR announced its intention to divest American Eagle, including Executive Airlines, from parent company AMR Corporation. Having carefully and deliberately reviewed its strategic options, the company believes that separating Eagle from American Airlines would create value for its shareholders, while benefiting both carriers and their employees in the years to come.
"Within AMR, we have been able to develop a number of valuable businesses over the years, including American Eagle. We have a duty to our shareholders, who own the company, to continuously evaluate the best structure and strategy for all the businesses under the AMR umbrella. Our announcement today is a by-product of this ongoing analysis," said CEO Gerard Arpey.
"Thanks to a great team, and a lot of hard work over the years, American Eagle has grown into a top-notch regional airline that can stand on its own, and is well positioned to pursue growth opportunities outside of the AMR corporate structure. A change in ownership would let Eagle compete for flying agreements with other airlines on a level playing field, something it hasn't been able to do before now. New flying translates, of course, into new opportunities for American Eagle employees."
For American Airlines, a divestiture would enable AA to further sharpen its focus on the mainline business. That said, the company expects American Eagle to remain a regional partner for many years to come, providing it with the feeder traffic that is so critical to American's success, with quality service at competitive rates. After a divestiture takes place, American and Eagle would cooperate under a mutually beneficial contract, with Eagle providing flying of scope and quality comparable to what it provides today, on terms that reflect the market value of those services.
At this point, AMR has not decided exactly what form a divestiture might take, but the company has hired an investment bank to advise on this topic. Options include a sale of Eagle to another company or investor, or a distribution of American Eagle shares to existing AMR shareholders. It is impossible to know when Eagle's ownership will change. While many factors could influence the outcome, the process is expected to be complete sometime in 2008.
"This is important news – and, I believe, very positive news – for our company and for all of its stakeholders. And by publicly announcing our intent, we can now openly discuss issues with employees as we make decisions about the nature and timing," said Arpey. "There are many details to be worked out, and we will be sharing those details with you in the weeks and months to come. Please keep an eye on Jetnet and our other communications outlets, and feel free to discuss with your manager or supervisor." |
