Echo of Silence - empty your pm box or something! I tried to pm you, but I couldn't, and I can't email you either. I was just curious since earlier Boomer wrote something about Stanford and you getting mad about him jokingly criticizing it, and since I'm going there next year I thought I'd try and contact you. Sorry for the annoyance.

no no no I'm not going to empty my pm box. Bossy boy. My pms are precious! Actually, I turned off the pm thingy so you'll no longer be advised that my pm box is full :D
Boomers can criticize Stanford FOREVAR and I won't get mad. My soft 'n fuzzy red sweatshirt is no longer soft 'n fuzzy (so much for Stanford r0ckin' my s0cks0rs) and jwear, all you do here is study. Hmmm. Let me rethink that thought. All you do, if you want to do well, is study. *Rethinking again. All I do is study. But I'm finished and out of here and everyone else has two more weeks la la la la. :D

Phot, you should pm Meg. She doesn't always read the pms right away but she reads them eventually; she goes to Berkeley. Actually, she's the one who told me you were going there. But of course, I read it in our thread 5 seconds after she told me. :D
Are you going to live on campus? Do Dave's political compass, Phot. The Bears are kind a 'left leaning' if you know what I mean. ;) |

So I've been thinking about the Catholic Church, and at least one Bishop in Colorado now wanting to withold communion from voters instead of merely politicians who support abortion rights.
Then, I read the "pedo" thread in the CO room, rofl.
So, I started thinking about so-called "moral" issues, and about what is and is not "acceptable" within this realm of thought.
The questions I pose to you are as follows:
1.) What is a "moral" and "amoral" age range between two partners to have sex? |
Depends on your age and the type of individual you are. Wait unti you fully trust the individual, and you both agree that having sex won't change anything in your relationship (because having sex too soon WILL change things, I've seen it happen). Be ready to accpt each others past!!!! I don't know how many relationships that have been ruined because one person or the other couldn't get over the other's sexual history.
There's no "correct" time limit for someone to agree to have sex with their partner. It's about the trust, and getting to understand the responsibilities.
| quote: | | 2.) What is a "moral" and "amoral" age of consent? |
Consent to having sex? :conf: As in, what age would someone not understand what they were getting into?
Or what age is good to start having sex? If it's the latter, here's my answer.
I'm not really looking at that question in a "moral and amoral" sense of view. I don't think an individual should participate in sex until they are fully ready and prepared to think about the consequences. Even with the advacned technology of the pill etc etc, there still is a chance that you could get pregnant. You have to be fully aware of this fact and be ready to handle that. Also, you have to be prepared to think responsibly.
Okay, that guy is hot. But that guy has also had multiple one night stands. Is he clean? Don't let your body waste away from an STD just because some guy is wicked hot.
Personally, I waited until the age of 18 to have sex. I trusted my boyfriend and had had him tested, and he understood the necessity of the testing and wasn't offened in the least.
| quote: | | 3.) Should abortion be legal, and remain legal? Or, should it be made illegal? |
In my opinion, yes. Simply because I can't stand to see children grow up in awful families where the mother is far too young to handle such responsibilities just because they didn't have any options. Plus, there's always the issue of rape.
| quote: | | 4.) If abortion is made illegal (like in Russia and Ireland), what should be the ramifications? |
Rape, the parents age being under 18.
Should women be locked up if they have an abortion? Doctors?
No.
| quote: | 5.)
What is the best way to reduce the number of abortions? |
For CHILDREN not to be having SEX! FFS! 11 year olds who have slept with more people than I have? I personally think it's the parents responsibility to make their children understand what they are getting into. I know when I was a child, there was NO WAY I could go to the 7 pm movie. It was the afternoon show. No chance for me to get in trouble.
| quote: | 6.)
Should stem cell research be legal? |
I'll get more into this one when I get back from dinner.
| quote: | 7.)
Should gay marriage be legal? |
Dave, you know my answer to this one. I've gotten into many flame wars in the poli forum over it. :D
I didn't read the rest of the thread yet because I'm going to dinner. I'll catch up in a bit. I'll also answer number six later |
