how many are we behind banshee?
I have not read The Great Gatsby yet. Is it good? Why did you like it? |
we're about 500 behind banshee, i was just thinking about it :D
i liked gatsby because he had an undying hope, undying dreams, and because he kinda turned the world around him off and lived in his own little world... reminds me of myself, that's why i liked it. also because it kinda despises american society for being what it is, even in the 20s, and shows how gatsby kinda manages to stay rather clean...
i wanna read Catcher In The Rye again... i think freshman year of high school is probably too early for kids to read it... i didn't really understand it and i don't remember it at all - but i wasn't good at english then...
it's funny, i struggled to get B-s my freshman year and then i got the same teacher my senior year, totally loved the guy, btw, and didn't put too much effort in to get straight As... freshman year - barely passed quizzes, senior year - constantly screwed up curves on grammar tests and reading quizzes... not showing off, just remembering... heh.... |

*adds to the "to read list"
i'm constantly reading something, but right now, for the first time since summer, i don't have a book on my shelf
probably because i came back from thanksgiving vacation, where i read a 350-page book in 4 hours (rather medium-sized pages, medium-sized print)... need to get my ass to the library... |

The first book I read in English was "Catcher in the Rye." English dic in my left hand and English/Danish dic in my right hand. My memory is it took forever.
I've come so far. Its weird. That was just September 2000. Now, I even think in English, often. Isn't that odd? Do you think in English, Whiskers?
I haven't read The Magus, Montie. Do you recommend it? Would it be too difficult for me? |

the great gatsby is good if you think of all the characters as hot babes |

i do think in english and, in fact, i often find it hard to think in russian... 5 years is a long time, i may not look russian or write like one, yet my accent is still horrible, at least that's what *I* think :D
photobot is probably the scrawny little kid in his avatar :p:p:p |

its been awhile for me too since i've read catcher in the rye. i should read it again.
the Magus is pretty long, i don't think it would be too dificult to read, but it may take awhile. this shouldnt be a problem tho since once you pick it up, it totaly sucks you in.
if you can read catcher in the rye, you can read the magus. |

sometimes, but mostly it's me saying "what" when people mumble something under their nose expecting me to hear / understand them or when my brain is completely turned off... |
