It's campy, but a lot of parts are really great. I like how the vampires follow traditional rules - i.e. can't enter a house uninvited, can't cross running water, allergic to silver, etc. Not like superhero vampires in movies nowadays that can just do whatever they want.

I also like the deep south backdrop. Kind of an American gothic theme they go with that a lot of other works don't seem to handle too aptly.

The pacing seems kind of wonky, like some scenes are just filler, but overall it's a decent Vampire show amidst a sea of crap these days. I just wish that I didn't ever have to look at Anna Paquin's mouth, ever.

i just started watching twin peaks - wasn't familiar with it at all before this thread. i'm nearly through with the first season of it. very interesting. they're hosted on cbs. anything i should know about the show? which season was better? what else can i expect?

Until the mystery resolution that happens half way through the second season, it is probably one of the top 3 tv series ever. Then it drags for a couple of episodes where Lynch and the main series writer only had a minor production role (I think), before it picks up again for a worthy finish.

what does campy mean exactly? i've heard that term used to describe movies- typically horror flicks maybe? i don't think i've ever really grasped what it means...probably something i could just look up.
+1 on paquin's mouth. and you're right about the pacing. it's not even that episodes build and build to a climax. it's odd at times.

First season is definitely good. Both story and characters are well developed and the direction is also fairly decent. Second season on the other hand was a big disappointment, it could have easily lasted half of the episodes and the somewhat intriguing and ambiguous sexual atmosphere of the first season was replaced with scenes worthy of a trashy softcore movie.

I think its less campy than it is satirical.

i caught some of the show myself. it looks interesting to say the least. i'll probably make some kind of judgment after a couple of episodes in.

i recently discovered 'fear itself'. have been making my way through the season. like the show, no doubt.
could anybody recommend something similar? horror shorts / horror series of self-contained episodes.
