Masters of Horror, from the same creator of Fear Itself. Some first rate horror directors have shot one or two episodes in this one.
LAdazeNYnights
they're longer though aren't they?
movie length?
i feel like i've watched one before - directed by takashi miike.

edit.... wrong i am. just looked them up on netflix and they're all around an hour it seems. thanks for the heads up!

Well I have only seen most of the first season. Maybe the satire becomes more apparent in later episodes?

I was under the impression that the source material is a whole lot like Twilight for grown-ups, that is why I assume it's just campy self indulgence; which is fine from time to time, of course.

And Masters of Horror is great- well, many of them are. Some of them suck, but I loved the Deer Woman one, and of course, Dreams In The Witch House.

//God, there used to be a channel on Mogulus that streamed Masters of Horror all day long. Damn feds shut it down.

i dunno, i thought the race/class/sexual commentary was rather obvious. maybe im reading too much into it (though that's not normally my MO). but the parallels with proposition 8 were definitely there. either way i think its campiness is deliberate rather than accidental (see BSG the original series).

Watched the first 2 episodes last night. Pretty good.

That was rather good. Still, I'd love to see someone giving Lovecraft the big screen treatment. If one day del Toro indeed gets to do "At the Mountains of Madness" and does a fine job it might very well be the greatest horror movie in cinematic history.

It certainly has a lot going for it.

I still love the Yuzna treatment. :p But his movies have only ever used elements from Lovecraft's stories, never the literal text. I would absolutely adore a short movie based directly off The Hound.

I don't know, The Beyond was interesting but a little cheesy at times, while I wasn't entirely convinced by Dagon. Seemed to lack atmosphere a bit and I feel you could make a much better version of The Shadow over Innsmouth (which it actually was, despite the name). Have you ever played the Cthulhu PC Game? That one did it better than Yuzna imho.
The Hound could be interesting as a short movie, but apart from Mountains my personal dream would be a Lynch/Badalamenti take on The music of Erich Zann. Oh, the awesomeness... (It will never happen, but I love to dream about like that :( )

God do I love The Music of Erich Zann. And The Horror At Red Hook was also excellent. I like to think that Yuzna's Castle Freak was somewhat inspired by Lovecraft's He(edit: The Outsider), but I don't know. :p The Shunned House might also make for a great adaptation, though now that I think about it, not a whole lot happened - it was all literary atmosphere.

You meant 'From Beyond' before, but Fulci did a movie some time prior called The Beyond that's certainly not to be missed.

And yeah, I played Dark Corners of the Earth. I didn't complete it, but it was excellently creepy from what I played, and I definitely plan on picking it up again at some point.

It starts to suck at some point where it departs from survival and gets more fighting orientated. But overall it's an excellent game.

Any yeah, I mixed up From Beyond and The Beyond.

Edit:
I'm not sure what I've posted in this thread before, so here are, in order, the three greatest shows ever made.

1. Frasier
2. Twin Peaks
3. House

No, this is not an opinion, it's a fact. Yes, if you disagree your taste sucks. Yes, I know my taste is strange.
