i thought the show improved after the half hour, but the writing just isn't on par with the quality in recent years.

they did actually, but more historical than current. it isn't nearly as sophisticated as, say, the analogies in BSG. too much tell rather than show.

Just finished watching Falling Skies and despite a few flaws, it's actually quite watchable.
Although this is coming from a big sci-fi fan, so I'm probably biased and trying my best to ignore plot errors and cheesy character developments...... and also the poor special effects.
Although I shouldn't moan too much about the SFX, considering it's a brand new series.

Also what the was all that, weren't they supposed to be invaded and hunted by an alien force? Yet they walked around in groups of thousands in broad daylight no problem?
All the characters were cliché. Throw in some sappy moments that were supposed to move us.
Yeah I'm angry because there's no good scifi on.
I'm rewatching BSG, to get my fix.

That was my main plot concern, they must be allergic to sunlight or some . Invading vampire aliens, obviously.

The first episode was great. Elijah Wood is great in that pathetic downer-turned hopeful guy role. I'm not sure who the guy who plays the dog is, but he was pretty funny as well.
