I'm now watching In Treatment. It's very good, and I really don't have time to watch anything else. But it is so good that I just can't stop watching it :D |
+1, even though I prefer the original Israeli version. More authentic and less "polished". Fantastic show. |

Easily one of the most underrated shows in existence at the moment.
The beauty of it is, it's been renewed for Seasons 5 and 6 and Season 4 hasn't even started yet. That way you know it won't just get cancelled all of a sudden.
I just started watching S3 and it just gets better. The cast are absolutely fantastic with great chemistry and the storylines very well written.
Some may complain that every episode has the same formula (much like House does) but it's a really good formula and they always tend to keep something up their sleeve to surprise you at any moment. Highly recommended, probably my favourite series at the moment. |
yes, finally a show that i like that has some future, not that i have to be worried if ill get to see a new season next year or not (like with Chuck). Also it has Bruce ing Campbel in it. Thats class right there. The only think is i would have loved to se Fionna keep her irish accent, but i guess we cant have it all.
Oh yes and more eps per season! This show deserves it! |

Community- This show was gotten progressively better with (nearly) every episode. I thought the last one, Goodfella parody, was brilliant.
Friday Night Lights- Better than the movie. The first 3 seasons were great, the 4th will premier this summer on NBC. It has already aired on DirectTV. The 5th, and final, season will air on DirectTV in the fall.
30 Rock- I enjoy it, don't think it is phenomenal though.
Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution- I love this show. Is seemingly one of the most genuine television shows out there. For some reason this is the first time I have actually believed some dude or girl on a show when they say they believe in what they are doing. Really like this guy. |

In Hebrew. Unfortunately, only the second season also features English subs. I compared it to the American version. While it basically adopted the dialogue word-by-word, some deeply cultural aspects simply cannot be translated and conveyed in the same effective way. Mind you, the American actors do a terrific job and the writers put some great effort into giving the concept a distinctive 'American' interpretation. Nevertheless, I felt the Israeli version was more "raw" and intense. Take the whole military storyline, for example. The pilot is an archetype in the Israeli society. People, due to the draft, can more easily connect to his dilemmas. It is also more exciting for them to see the patronizing army stereotype (those guys have a whole different way to speak, simple impossible to translate) gradually fall apart into small pieces. This is just one example.
Also, the Israeli main actor/shrink is a cult figure and enfant terrible, known to oscillate between genius and insanity. He's a real life nutcase and the way he takes his personal experiences in order to deliver such a breathtaking performance takes the show to a whole different level. It's mindblowing if you know the guy and his issues, and then witness his spot-on psychologist interpretation.
But, as I said, even without this special background, "in Treatment" is a brilliant piece of television. |

"In Treatment" is definitely one of my favorite shows of the last few years.
Also, I haven't see anyone mention Southland, It's one of the best crime dramas out there that moves at a lightning pace every episode. It basically jumps around to a bunch of different stories and characters. Sometime they intersect and sometimes not. Season 1 aired on NBC and it just moved to TNT for season 2.
I'm not usually into the cop dramas, but trust me this one really stands out. |

What I love are people who still rave about their Tivo subscriptions. This technology is just... just so amazing!
I'm always waiting for them to start going on about how laserdiscs are the future. |

Funny you should mention that because, biographical differences notwithstanding, the army guy reminded me a lot of my father, and he worked in the air force his whole life. The way he thinks is so familiar that it made the character all the more real to me.

We surely lost something on this one. Byrne does a great job as Dr. Weston, there's no disputing that, but he'll always be the priest from Stigmata to me :p |
