And Masters of Horror is great- well, many of them are. Some of them suck, but I loved the Deer Woman one, and of course, Dreams In The Witch House.
|
I feel the same way about Fear Itself. I've watched all but two of the episodes so far and of the dozen or so episodes I'd probably single out two or 3 of them as being good. I don't know if you could call any of them great. A couple others are alright, but that's it. One or two suck and the rest are substandard.
I'm excited for Masters of Horror- I feel like they're probably better.

That was rather good. Still, I'd love to see someone giving Lovecraft the big screen treatment. If one day del Toro indeed gets to do "At the Mountains of Madness" and does a fine job it might very well be the greatest horror movie in cinematic history. |
Whoah there buddy. Whoah. I agree- if del Toro nails it, the movie will be fantastic. I really don't think anything will ever top The Shining for me though. A lot of horror flicks, even the so-called great ones, get old for me. As many times as I've seen The Shining, it still scares me.

3. House

House is a good show. I don't think it's great though. This may sound stupid but I can sit down and watch Law & Order for hours when the marathons are on. When House marathons are on I can do maybe 2 or 3 episodes before it loses some charm. I really like the show, but in smaller doses. |

Agreed, The Shining is among the greatest horror flicks, but I still hope a brilliant director with a great script will top it some day. Which is a long shot, given we mostly get talentless dicks doing ty remakes / sequels these days.
As for House, it's probably too formulaic to be consumed in large doses. But there are episodes that are nothing short of epic. The one where Wilson is on Speed had me laughing so hard that I hard to turn off the TV and calm down, cause I couldn't breathe anymore. Only the best Frasier episodes have done this to me before. |

| Was looking into the At the Mountains of Madness movie - James Cameron is signed on as a producer it seems. Not sure how I feel about that, but probably not a bad thing. |

| If they it up I will hate Cameron and del Toro for life. :whip: |

edit.... wrong i am. just looked them up on netflix and they're all around an hour it seems. thanks for the heads up! |
You have watched Imprint, the only episode that was too extreme to be shown on television.
By the way episodes horror films were a fairly prolific genre in the 50-60ies. There was a short revival around the 1990ies and then nothing anymore with the exception of some recent Asian production.
If you don't mind fairly old movies I would track down at least this one: Black Sabbath/I Tre Volti della Paura (Mario Bava, 1963). |

yeah, Imprint was :wtf:
I looked into Black Sabbath- have you seen the American or Italian version?
From wiki:
| quote: | | the American version has been turned into a ghost story, whereas the Italian original is a non-supernatural, noirish exercise in vengeance and murder |

I have the dvd of the original Italian version. Would be better if you can recover that one.
| quote: | | # As documented by Tim Lucas (in Video Watchdog #5), the order of the segments was rearranged by AIP for the English-language release. The original ordering was: "The Telephone," "The Wurdalak," and "The Drop of Water." In addition, "The Telephone" was re-dubbed and slightly re-cut by Bava at AIP's request to create a supernatural angle and disguise the lesbian overtones of the story. |
I read that also the music and some sound effects have been changed in "The Drop of Water" and the episode is not as convincing as the original version. |
