I insist that everyone places it on their 'bucket list'. I literally can't put into words, how amazing and thought provoking it was.
I went camping back in the summer and we got blind drunk in this little village pub in the middle of nowhere. As we were walking back to the campsite I fell over in a field and realised there was a total clear sky overhead. We spent about an hour laid in this wet field just stargazing and watching shooting stars streak over. That was an amazingly profound experience as it was. I would love to do it in some exotic location with a much clearer night sky and a view of the whole ing galaxy.

The video below captures a similar view, but with more detail than can be captured with the naked eye, due to the time lapse.
Normally, one would think showing a video like this would diminish the actual experience, but trust me when I say that it absolutely won't.

I love these timelapse videos. Its amazing what one can see if they go out of the city for a bit. Trully a sight to behold.

We cannot see stars outside of our own galaxy with our eyes. You can most certainly see the Milky Way, however.
You can even see it from the UK, low as it is. I'm sorry you've never taken the time to leave the city.
