I'm not sure I can see enough detail there. Do you have any larger pics, Marcus? :p
Edit: Hey, what the :wtf: They magically re-sized. What is this sorcery?! |

I always forget you've already been here. When was it? Was the JK bridge already around? You're supposed to see it from the restaurants around the lake
...
We do have our fair share of quirky buildings, though I wish we had more. Niemeyer is senile and unstoppable, and this is his latest project: A new TV tower...
...
That blue church is called "Igreja Dom Bosco", which I affectionately call "Dom Boxxo" because it IS a box... and architects say it's supposed to be a great exemplar of contemporary engineering because it's a 40x40 metres wide box with no pillars/walls inside. Is it really supposed to be that awesome? |
Yes, I went in the summer of 2006, I spent a week in Brasilia and the rest of the month elsewhere, mostly in Rio and Sao Paolo. I'm definitely hoping to come back. Some of the beaches I went to near Rio were my favorites ever. I went right after the bridge was done I think. The igloo museum still was not open.
We were supposed to meet Niemeyer at his pad in Rio, but his assistant said he was was too weak. But we did get to go to his bachelor pad in the mountains, casa das canoas. From what I understand he basically grumbles and draws a line with a magic marker on a piece of paper, and then his shop does the rest.

dom boxxo - :haha:, I liked the deep façade, and appreciated the span from an engineering perspective. We went because I had a class about concrete, with which Brasilia is just rife. |

It's not terribly exciting in there, you didn't miss anything.
If you do come, let me know! I show foreign girls the best spots in town all the time :D

Tell me about it :D
I was told the Universidade de Brasilia was actually left unfinished during the military regime though... I wish I could see what it was supposed to be like... |

oh, really? that's interesting. i appreciate the brutalism though.
i didn't get to go out much at all when i was there, i think the only thing closest was we had a cocktail party at the spanish ambassador's house, which is weirdly enough designed entirely with hexagons. one of the kids in our studio was this really connected guy from madrid. |
