Yeah, I guess I just take it a little more seriously because it's part of what makes mine and others' lives more difficult every day.
It also gets pretty irritating when you come out to person after person and the first thing they say is 'so do you still have a dick'... It is unfortunate (and wrong imo) that the admission of transsexuality seems to be carte blanche for everyone and their grandmother to ask prying, sexual questions, make sexual innuendos, etc. And this isn't just limited to immature people on internet forums - what is it that you see in every television special about transsexuals: detailed descriptions and fixation on the sexual reassigment, genitalia, etc. It's society in general that needs to grow up.
So sorry I singled you out, I just couldn't let it go. |

Not at all. What I'm saying is that a disproportionatly high number of transexuals turn to prostitution and/or pornography; generally as a means to earning enough money to fund their hormone treatments and/or reassignment surgery. Considering the low representation of transgendered persons in the US population (.25%-1%) contrasted with the relatively high percentage of same in the porn/prostitution industries it is not unreasonable that one would link trangendered and pornography/prostitution. I'm not saying that it is a correct link to make; however, it is understandable that one would make that link. |
