Trance didn't exist until few years after House and Techno broke into Europe.

Get your history right son

Frankie Knuckles was the one that some credit for giving house the name it was, remember he did play at the wareHOUSE. Don't throw in DJ Pierre for inventing house, credit Larry Levan (RIP) and Ron Hardy and maybe Francois K. Credit Nathaniel Jones aka DJ Pierre for pushing acid house, along with Jefferson and Larry Heard aka Mr.Fingers and Phuture.

Techno was originally started by Atkins and a man named Rick Davis, it was called techno till the 3 sat down to decide on a name. If they were black is just something that was common between them.

Trance they claim got going in 1987, which if my memory serves me right was exactly at the time that techno and house started to push more into Europe. A few years later was when everyone got going on the bandwagon.

I know the story, I was just trying to sum it up in a very few words based on my bad memory to point out that it came from the black community.
I've even had a sitdown with Larry Heard himself to discuss all this. It's just my very bad memory.

You're right, I had my history wrong. [I'm not familiar with early forms of techno since I'm mostly interested in modern music so forgive me for my ignorance in that area.] But think about how EDM is viewed today. It's very "Eurocentric". When DJing at dances, I've rarely ever spun a trance song simply because people just call it techno in the US because that's what many of them are familiar with. With hip-hop here, the crowds go insane. It appears that EDM is simply an outdated genre in the US that few listen to. Yes, I know, many people in other non-European countries [many in Asia] enjoy EDM. However, much of their EDM is made by Europeans.

There is a point where one needs to draw the line between two completely different genres. To think of Hip-hop as EDM seems [to me anyway] absolutely absurd. I'm not sure you'd understand this but I've always thought that saying hip-hop is EDM is like saying chimpanzees are a type of human. Sure, hip-hop and trance may have the same roots, but listen to how different they are [or similar]. Humans share many similarities to chimps, just as trance shares many similarities to hip-hop. But have you ever heard anyone say that a chimp is a human? Of course, that's the EDM I'm referring to. Everyone here seems to have a different interpretation of what it is. EDM may have come from the black community, but I think of that as a distant common ancestor between hip-hop and EDM. As the development of the EDM genres progressed, I have no doubt that others molded it to their own liking.

I highly recommend this book to people who believe that hip-hop is a type of EDM [that is, if you haven't read it already]
[The Origins of Hip-Hop: from African villages to the streets of New York.]

I firmly believe that many of our references to 'EDM' should be interpreted as 'European Dance Music' to avoid further confusion with modern hip-hop. That's not to say that there shouldn't be a genre called 'Electronic Dance Music', but the term is too general. Almost all popular music today is electronic [because electronic sounds better!:) ]. There simply needs to be some sort of differentiation.

So there, I'm done. Three minutes of typing! Keep debating everyone. I'm enjoying this.

Yes I know. That Hip-hop to EDM and Chimp to Human comparison is kinda confusing. Disregard it if you find it really odd. It took a friend of mine awhile to explain it to me.

'Round about 1984, son

Who is they, and what were they smoking.

And you might want to add a (rip) for Ron Hardy too. And Larry Heard wasn't an Acid House producer.

Dear God. House is American. Techno is American. American producers were the ones who discovered the handiness of the TB 303 and other famous pieces of kit, which wrote the rule-book for a generation of producers. Europe's contributions to EDM would likely never have happened if it weren't for American contributions.

Europe is not the centre of the universe for dance music.

Jesus. "It's European Dance Music because it, uh... sounds European and is... uh... made by white people", "Hip-hop isn't EDM because it's... um, totally different. It's all about the VIIIBE, man!"

Cut it already. If hip-hop isn't EDM then jungle isn't, either, since it's all about the vibe... and um, ragga doesn't have the same vibe, um, yeah. :p

No it's not. Go to my guide. Look how much god damn music is outside of your whitebread crackerjack sheltered little sphere. In all of that, I would say only about 20% of all electronic music is purely european. I even mentioned in my tutorial what the BIG THREE nerve centres for all electronic music are. Two of them are black

False analogy. Saying champanzees are a type of human is like saying trance is a type of hip hop, and no one is saying anything of the sort. Yet if you want to classify things by Kingdom, Family, Class, Order, Phylum, just about everything matches up right until you get to Genus and Species.

Proper analogy: saying hip hop and trance are electronic music is like saying chimpanzees and humans are primates. Which they are.

But the genres listed there are real, are they not? Good examples are provided, hm? I think you're only whining because Ishkur thinks epic kiddie trance blows.

NO.

Read the drum'n'bass genre.
Read the 2Step Garage genre. (yes you probaly have to be english to get The Streets)
Hip Hop Was invented by blondie  which proves this guide is a joke.
but all the arguments he puts across are all based on his guide which is a "joke".
i have now came to believe that Ishkur himself is a joke.

There used to be a genuine explanation of hip-hop, but as nobody who is able to read Ishkur's guide is ever going to need educating about what hip-hop is. So he made a sarcastic comment.

The writing in the guide is a mixture of history and Ishkur's personal opinion of the genre in question. The samples, links between genres and the dates are (largely) accurate, although people are always nit-picking it.
