Edm Genres? (pg. 18)

It's pretty simple.

One artist has a unique sound, many people copy him or the style of music and a new sub-genre forms.

Music evolves.

What you call techno now, may sound different 10 years later.

What you call hip hop now may sound something like trance for all you know in the future.

I'm sure the likes of the Beatles or Elvis wouldnt have imagined that rock n roll would have spawned such bands like Radiohead or Slayer..

Ever heard of Disco?
Ever heard of a little genre called House?
Ever heard a little guy named Frankie Knuckles?
Ever heard of "Jamie Principle's"?
Ever heard of Marshall Jefferson?
Ever heard of Afrika Bambaata?
Ever heard of Detroit Techno?
Ever heard of Juan Atkins?
Ever heard of Derrick May?
Ever heard of Kevin Saunderson?
Ever heard of Brian Transeau?
Ever heard of Gabriel & Dresden?

Shall i go on?

Selective requoting? How unbecoming! I guess that makes you a dipstick :) Thanks for the list of godawful crap though.

Try using the acual quote - ie "the US is of minimal significance in the evolution of trance and Eurodance". I hope that you at least have the grace to feel embarrassed now.

House and techno are not mentioned in my post, and clearly US artists were genre leaders there. I was talking about the origins of Euro club music, which is almost non existent in the US, and incidentally includes trance, which this site is dedicated to.

of course things will sound different in 10 years but things tend to branch out more into subgenres then a new genre in itself. metallica is rock and 10 years after they started there are groups like matthew good who are still considered rock. evolved for sure but we just evolve things into seperate genres like hard rock for metallica and alt rock for matthew good.

Boy, your sources are real dumbasses...because most sources DON'T say that. IT'S COMMON KNOWLEDGE BUDDY, AND BOTH YOU AND YOUR SOURCES ARE WRONG. Hell, your "sources" is probably a 16 year old moron who posts on www.djforums.com.

I guess the assertion that Juan Atkins is called the "Godfather Of Techno" is just a bad statement then. And that whole MUSEUM thing, well that was just a misstep on the part of DETROIT.

I don't know what they call Frankie Knuckles, but they did give name a street after him in Chicago because he invented something related to that city, I don't know what it could be.

Point granted, but we weren't talking about Eurodance, we're talking about EDM...

But still... when you talk about trance... there are lots of US big names out there in trance... and are you sure "Euro Club music" would have made it with out US influences???

GOA is a State in India...Ron Rothfield took the name "Raja Ram" after some Indian shaman told him to, or some weird bull like that. He said something to that effect in an interview.

You've just lost any shred of credibility you ever had.

To everyone else, trance and eurodance are only a small section of EDM, and you need to wake up, get out of your tunnel and look at the EDM scene as a whole. Trance and eurodance would not exist were it not for techno and house, both of which are American.

To root this argument, it's wrong to say hip-hop isn't EDM because it is black in origin, it's wrong to say hip-hop isn't EDM because it doesn't sound like European dance music and it's wrong to say hip-hop is not EDM because it has a different "vibe" to trance. Hip-hop is EDM. End of.

Another thing that proves hip hop is edm is....

Dance music magazine track reviews. they have hip hop sections in magazines alongside house, techno, trance.

as System-J said

Hip Hop is EDM. End Of.
