Yes music can still be EDM without the electricity.

So if our definition of EDM has nothing to do with electronic sounds, the answer me this: How do we distinguish what is and what is not EDM? Because you like Rap and want it to be? Well, I might as well go ahead and call almost all music that I like "EDM".

Why don't you be a little honest for a change and quote something in its context?

I'll give you the whole quote IN CONTEXT:

"Hip-hop is music, art, poetry, dancing, and life.

Rap music itself is just music, no culture behind it.

'Hip hop', at its core, is not a style of music. The term "hip hop" actually refers to the cultural movement that began in the 70s and 80s in the section of New York City known as The Bronx."

So how does Hip-Hop become "music"? When it associates with "RAP" music that lies within its culture.

the qoute you qouted from me was basically saying what you call EDM (the artists i mentioned faithless etc) can still be edm without the electricity because the songs were oroginallt created to be EDM. same with hip hop its 99% produced to be album material and 99& of hip hop concerts use electronic backing tracks. but it can also be performed using live instruments i.e The Roots.

But with rock music the songs were created to be performed and recorded with live instruments.

So how is Hip-Hop "music"? Only because it includes "RAP" in its culture.

yes but it still says Hip Hop is Music that is the only reason why i qouted.

17 but my age has nothing to do with any of this.

This is the point form of all Hydarnes' posts I'm getting the impression of:

Rap: Purely lyrical music. Does not require any backing instrumental music to be a genre, but is often used with backing instrumentation.

Hip-Hop: A culture. Nothing more.

I can see the arguement you are making here but it's the wrong one. What everyone is talking about here is the electronically-produced backing music used for the lyrics. The common term for that music is often referred to as hip-hop. Is it correct? Who knows. It's certainly the most accepted, though.

You seem to be implying it isn't that, however. But if the form of electronic music used as the backing soundtrack to most rap is not called hip-hop, then what is it called?
