I'm really sorry, but music made with electronic synthesizers is electronic.

I understand just calling it EDM or electronica, but techno is a sub-genre itself, so calling the entire genre techno is .. way off. (yeah, even if 97% of the US population thinks it's techno)

And for a good list with some rather subjective definitions, check out the Ishkur Guide To Electronic Music here.

Let's find out. To grab a really obvious song that I like: Kirsty Hawkshaw: Fine Day. I have no question that it is an ambient trance/house song, and yet it is also euphoric.

Then you'd have to clump New Age in there too (Like Enya). And most rap doesn't even have synths, they just have percusion with some guy rapping. I realize that some EDM songs will incorporate rap at times, like eurodance, but trying to equate the two as roughly the same thing is ridiculous.

Rap is EDM. I don't get how it's so hard to understand that. Just because it doesn't have supersaw synths and a 4/4 beat, that doesn't mean it isn't electronically produced.

'Euphoric' isn't even a sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-rub-a-dub-sub-genre. It's just a description of the feeling you might get when listening to it. If someone is calling that a genre, they're thinking about it way too much.

Like those that claim there's a major difference between full-on ambient, no-step ambientcore, and airport ambience.

Then let's call Enya EDM, because she employs a great deal of synthesizers and she sounds like ambient trance but without the heavy percussion. ;) (And btw I absolutely adore Enya's music, she's astonishing).

Wow, this is like hitting a tennis ball against a garage door.

Yes, it is a loose subgenre. But I agree that it really shouldn't be a stingent category in the least.

Sorry, but I'm using the same logic you're using to make Rap EDM. Just because it uses synthesizers DOESN'T MAKE IT EDM, period. I'm not trying to start a flame war, but do get what I'm saying. Rap might be RELATED to EDM, but it can't be clumped together. :p

Sykonee
Um... Enya is EDM (or EM, as the case may be). You've just proved UWM's point.
