Want a background to rave? I could just as well say that African tribes danced similarly and to beat-oriented music, and therefore is the origin of rave.

That's not proof. Breakdancing was "invented" when Kool Herc started spinning two copies of the same record to lengthen the break.

and you telling me this is proof?

Well, it did happen. Whatever happened back in Africa, mon, is pure speculation. :p

So did the Greeks, Romans, Myans, Celts, Iroquois, etc, etc, etc...

Dancing to beat driven music is natural to humans. Hell, even a waltz is beat driven, it's just more subtle.

The modern rave is simply a 21st century take on an anchient drive, much like the classical period balls were, the Dionysian Greek festivals, the North American Indian Pow Wows, and the African tribal dances.

Rap is defined by the style of singing, not by the background accompaniment. Like Opera, it is named after the singing. Rap can have any background accompaniment it wishes.

If that were true, Faithless would be rap, and they have repeatedly stated in interviews and promotional materials that they are house.

I know this argument is getting tired, so let's wind it down. DJ Shadow is the most famous instrumental hip-hop artist.

Rap is a vocal style, but hip-hop is a sub genre of EDM. No doubt about that.

Aside from this controversy, there certainly seems to be a huge conflict between sources and definitions across the board. A large number of sources categorically disagree that hip-hop is even a musical genre, and that it is synonymous with Rap (including cultural implications). Unfortunately, this debate facilitates countless potential for petty loopholes that will enable those who would seek to stretch a certain musical style fit a preferred genre will have plenty of opportunity to do so.

With a little more argument I could contend just as "effectively" that some subgenres of rock can qualify as EDM.

The problem is that there is so much fusion going on lately that the line of distinction between all genres is getting quite opaque. Subjectivity is rampant.

Rap clearly has a different following than the major forms of EDM, and this alone, if no other compelling evidence existed, seems to separate it musically from EDM. Moral Hazard has done a very good job at defining criteria and critical discrepancies.

no. hip hop is a CULTURE made with 4 crucial elements being DJing, MCing, Breakdancing & Tagging/Graffiti.

Rap is what MCs do over beats.

:)

and its def. a part of EM, not necessarily EDM. not all hip hop is made for the intention of 'dancing'.

:)
