This is a good argument at the historical level in terms of the founders and pioneers of genres. But when you rewrite that in social [and possibly economic?] terms, you have very little US influence. As I recall, it was a few people from the UK who brought electronic music to raves [which supposedly originated in India?]. The US has produced the pioneers of many types of music particularly rock and hip-hop. Most of modern music was started by American artists. I'd love to say that we 'own' pretty much everyone's modern music, but I wouldn't call every genre made by American artists American genres since the UK had much to do with bringing the music to the masses. Would the music even be around today if no one listened to it? |

Where did i say Trance is an American genre?
He was talking about the evolution of Trance...and i enlightened him on the history of Trance...which did in fact evolve from House music...and House music did evolve from Disco....Disco and House ARE American genres..that is a fact. |

Naw. It was just that whole Hip-Hop = EDM arguement spawned a wild debate. I'm surprised no one just gave up on it after Hydarnes proved himself to be a lover of the taste of his own foot.
PS: If hip-hop isn't EDM, then what would that make The Movement's hit single Jump!, as it combines both old rave hardcore with hip-hop. (they coined it 'hip-no' -wonder why that never caught on.:wtf: ). |
