Don't ask me why, but something's telling me that Hydarnes haven't got a clue about what ambient really is. :haha:

Ambient often doesn't have a bassline at all, so that's not a good way to categorize it I guess. Listen to stuff from Biosphere, Pete Namlook and Global Communication for instance and you'll get a clue of what it's like. There's various sub-genres within ambient too though, but those artists are among the most popular.

Ambient doesn't even have a bassline sometimes. Basically, it's slow listening music. Kind of like New Age music, except with more substance.

Edit: Outposted, coise it all.:p

acknowledge what fact? i truthfully dont what else to say. there are numerous people here against what your saying and some that go with it. but in my...opinion, its just common sense that music electronically made, is ing electronic music. i still havnt heard YOU explain why it isnt. just because you perhaps dont like hiphop doesnt entitle you do deminish it for what it is. is it perhaps the rapping part that makes it something other than electronic? what the is vocal trance then. what about artists like anti pop consortium, bonobo, nightmares on wax, john kennedy, dj shadow, rjd2, funkstörung even could be put here; and all the other countless hiphop artists out there. labels like mo wax, ninja tune, warp, and many others...you wouldnt call that electronic music? What is it then?!

Obviously you haven't been reading anything that's been said here or you would have noticed that I'm not the only one that thinks rap and hip-hop don't technically belong in the EDM category. Not only did you so effortlessly elide the fact that by all of these phony generalized definitions you and others are making that virtually ALL music ever created with ANY synthesizers would have to be redefined as EDM--which they are NOT.

#1. You failed to address the argument with respect to New Age Music and conveniently ignored it. It employs a great deal of synthesizers. Even if this makes it in some respects EM, it isn't accepted by authorities as EM or EDM. What part of that can't you grasp? The same is applicable for rap and hip-hop. Just because it may employ some occasional synthesizers does not put it in the same category with eurodance, trance, house or the likes, PERIOD.

2. I provided you with independent sources which establish my position concerning what EDM constitutes. You also choose to pretend they don't exist and instead have the gall to accuse me of not knowing what I'm talking about. You've established nothing here other than the fact that you are too full of yourself to consider that you might be wrong on something.

3. You have failed to acknowledge that your definitions of what constitutes EDM would have to entail FAR MORE musical styles than what you accept, clearly intimating hypocrisy. Moreoever, I'm not the only one here that doesn't accept the notion that rap and hip-hop belong in the EDM category.

Someone here even went so far as to insinuate that rap and hip-hop qualify as EDM BECAUSE THEY HAVE PERCUSSION! How absurd is that? Let's INCLUDE ALL MUSIC as edm.

It might also do you good to realize that appealing to ad hominem tactics won't make you appear any less wrong ont his matter.

Don't ask me why, but something's telling me that you'd rather make unsubstantiated assertions rather than actually establish a point.

Telling me why you think I don't know what ambient is might be a good start. This should be quite an interesting debate, considering that I'm heavily into ambient music, and am extensively familiar with it.

Not necessarily. Even fast-paced trance can be ambient providing the right vocals.

LOL, we're talking about the genre ambient here. It's a genre within edm, not a subgenre of trance. Fast-paced trance has nothing to do with ambient.

And no, Kirsty Hawkshaw has nothing to do with ambient either. :tongue3
