i do admit, crumbs does knock out magnolia's any day...cake man raven competes fairly well in that dessert type of way, doughnut plant (not sold at dean n deluca's) in LES is another one of my favorite treats...
lol yea yea...not healthy but hey with the amount of work you put in, you're bound to treat yourself here n there, just make sure they are quality treats and not like some generic candy bar lol |

cake man raven's red velvet cake is ridiculous!!! I eat very very well (mostly because I don't like many things) but put a cupcake in my face and I'm done.
on topic: so was on the elliptical last night and it said I burned ~650 calories...do any of you actually believe those numbers? Sometimes I think they are just bull . |

man i can't stop talking or thinking about food since i started eating healthfully. i guess its fun to talk about to some extent. better to talk about it than to partake in it eh?
on another note, totally GORGED myself on some quality sashimi and sushi that arrived unexpectedly last night after dinner. My mantra right now is total portion control and content, but i just couldnt resist. im hoping it wont make too much of a dent in the regimen im trying to establish :( def got my Omega3's tho :D
hurting like a mofo since the machines and abs work :( but its cool. ooh muscles! hahaha don't care about losing weight as long as i lose sizes. then again it normally goes hand in hand. cool  |

yeah I was actually wondering that myself because when I was at the gym yesterday, I did 30 minutes on the bike (intervals in resistence and speed) and only burned "80 calories"....and then did 30 minutes on the elliptical (intervals again) and burned "400 calories" in the same amount of time. I thought that was complete BS because I didnt feel like I worked any harder or any less on either. :conf: |

elliptical you are burning more because your entire body is into the exercise (supposedly) but the discrepency in how many calories burned is borderline nuts.
I think I'll stick to evaluating my cardio by how much I sweat / heart rate BUT I don't trust the machine to give me my correct heart rate either (count it by yourself is what I say) |

I agree!!! I get onto those machines and they check your heart rate and it says 80 or some and you've been busting your ass for the last 20 minutes and can feel your heart pumping in your chest.
Its like wieght, don't always go by the number. you can weight 110 pounds but if you never work out and don't eat healthy doesn't mean you are fit cause your 110 pounds. As long as you feel good that's what counts |

^^^amen sister :)
my favorite is when it says your heart rate is like 190, which is craziness because my heart should theoretically pop out of my chest |

Harder, I think, than starting a gym/work out routine is maintaining consistency. Is there anything any of you do to keep yourself going on a consistent basis, or is it sort of a "just do it" thing?
Personally, I ended up developing some pretty painful health problems late last year that got worse as 2007 progressed. Went to the hospital etc and ended up with 3 choices.
1. continue living in horrible pain
2. take meds that would make me almost as uncomfortable as being ill
3. exercise regularly
Guess which choice won lol. I can't really go much more than two days away from the gym without ending up in a world of pain so that's my motivation, if you can call it that. I would have much rather willed myself to the gym every day just because I wanted to go. Now I'm pretty much stuck there as much as possible. I'm not even looking to lose weight or get stronger (though they're obvious side effects). I just go to avoid the painful consequences.
Right now it's about to be lunch time at work and I could go for some bbq chicken. Mmmm... :tongue2 . But instead it'll be gym and a protein bar as usual. Good times.. :stongue: |

| Khalil personally I make it a part of my day and "require" myself to go. I feel very guilty if I don't go plus I get ansy...if you schedule the gym like a class /meeting you'll go more often than not. |

for me it's routine. Like wai said, i feel guilty if i don't go. But even more, it's a release. I work in an office for over 50 hours a week, so going to the gym is the only way i exercise. Which is painful to me because until last year i played baseball, softball, football, and racquetball regularly. I think it's more of a personality thing than anything else. Some people like eating, others like exercising, i really think it's that simple. |
