Lifting weights is important as much as its effective becouse it builds muscle. When you build muscle, you raise your metabolism. A higher metabolism means you burn more calories in a shorter period. Over all you will be able to burn fat off and keep it off with a form a resistance training. Lot of women dont want to lift weights becouse they are afraid that they are going to get big. You will not get big unless if you lift with both high volume and high intensity experiencing maximum hypertrophy and consume a large amount of calories. The workout routine I reposted above is far from high volume and intense. Sure a lot of weight can be lost during a cardiovascular routine. But it will easily be gained back. Why? becouse you didnt build up your metabolism from strengthening program. Ive seen it happen countless of times.
What research have you 2 done? How many people have you got into shape? What scientific proof do you have to support your theory? But im not here to argue.
So lets start over. Youre not here to lose weight. Youre here to gain muscle and drop body fat |
you're misguiding people when you said that alot of weight can be gained back from cardio vascular workouts. Sure that may be true, but the truth is you will never maintain results without consistently working out (regardless of the type of working out). If you stop weight training you will gain weight. Actually, you may gain more weight because all that muscle you built up, which as you know is heavier than fat, will not continue to be lean muscle.
it doesn't appear that your opinion is objective given your trade is personal training. of course you're going to guide someone to lifting weights. |

edit: I also would love advice on this specific part of lifting: I strong and can lift more than most women who work out regularly. I also build muscle QUICKLY.
The last time I had a trainer, he noticed that the routine he gave me was not challenging enough and gave me another routine. I bulked up no matter what I did...even when he lowered my weight/reps. (FRUSTRATING!!) Any advice on how to balance a challenging workout without getting ginormous muscles would be great. :) |
Then DON'T lift weights. Do activities that use multiple muscle groups without weight training (sports, etc) and do body resistence exercises (assisted dips, assisted pull ups, push ups, crunches, etc...). It sounds to me like the perfect activity for you is sports.
btw...giving yourself a more challenging routine usually means more weights, which means more muscles. |

^^^more challenging might not mean more weight. It could be the same amount of weight with a slight variation or more cardio mixed in.
also, don't know how this thread turned into people snapping at one another...personally I like what Direct put up, gives me ideas of different exercises and imo it isn't excessive. He actually put some type of effort into his suggestions. |

I would LOVE to play raquetball, that was something I was looking into. However, I work in the north east bronx at weird hours. the only courts I have found were in manhattan (which is really too far because I already have an hour commute and dont want to travel even MORE south to get to a court at 9pm!!) :( :( boo :( |
I found racquetball courts at 96th and lex, don't know how far that is from you.

I liked it. I went at a great time, and there were very few people. Every station has cable so you can watch what you want to keep distracted (if you choose not to listen to music). I noticed that these machines (even the one's I recognized the particular exercise for) looked different then at Bally's, so I will have to re-learn all the machines :( |
