5K I believe is only like 2.5 miles (aprox.) we can all walk it together. Wont take more then an hour (TOPS) walking, I would say a half hour running.

5 km= 3 mi. Walking is fine, but I am with wai on this one: long-distance running is the devil. It hurts my boobies. :( :(

^^Also the AIDS walk is usually in May. Its 10 km (starts at central park north, goes over to Riverside drive all the way down to the w70's and into central park again.....In the summer I walked from 120th to 72nd when I wanted to go to CP so its not so bad!!!)

^^and you have to get someone to sponsor you. Its a great cause :) :)

The only way for me to be happy is to lose weight....

So who made a body-related new years' resolution?

I won't really, the past few months I think I did pretty well at being healthy and happy with myself! So I think I'll just try to continue healthiness. :)

ugh........so gym BOREDOM is setting in.....any suggestions? :(

I have actually chosen to stay at home the last 2 weeks, and do all these resistence bands/kickboxing/pilates/and boot camp DVD's, just because the gym is boring the hell outta me after 3-4 months of steady workouts.

Unfortunately, the classes offered at my time of day are god awful as well. I have tried switching up the routines, but lets be honest, even switching it up is limited in increasing the fun factor.

Edit: also wasting a load of money by NOT going. Need gym-only recommendations, because I am stuck paying whether I go or not!!

Honestly there is really no way around it....I'm dealing with the same thing. Pretty much you just have to keep at it because the only real motivator is RESULTS....so when I get bored I try to become more focused on getting results. Other than that I dunno....maybe try to make some friends at the gym? Never been a big fan of that because I'm always on a tight schedule....I like to get in and out of the gym rather quickly and not waste time bull ting about nonsense......wouldn't wanna hold a conversation with most of the people at my gym anyways lol.

That actually sounds like a great alternative but I do see the pt about wasting $ by not actively going - which is another reason why I put off joining a gym till this past october.

I've actually haven't gone back to the gym since the week of New Years Eve. Been holed up with the flu plus other illnesses. I've pretty much stopped my health regimen and focusing on building up my immune system and iron (blood) level. But since I'm paying 328$ for a 2 year membership I'm kinda ok with missing this amt of time.

Yea I'm in agreement with Brian on sticking with the routine. I actually don't see the gym as fun..but ever since I've been able to run at least 2/3 of the time vs. 1/3 walking on the treadmill each session I've felt almost twice the amt of adrenaline/energy the next day at work. (Only 30 min worth too but any other cardio should do the trick). That alone makes me want to come back and increase my stamina the next day. That's the only cardio I do ever. The rest r weights. I do the same workout every time (2 to 3 times a week) and circuit-train for about an hour, focusing on arms, shoulders and back -- maybe 4-5 machines at most. What motivates me is that I see results and that I get through more machines and reps in the same time than some guys next to me, but hey whatever works, its diff for everyone. I'm glad I don't have an active partner. Unless I need to be spotted at a weight bench I don't need one. I see a lot of ppl not utilizing their time efficiently cuz they talk waaay too much while they are taking turns on one machine.

But pro-gym partner: motivation in the form of competition. Drew and I have this unofficial friendly competition with doing 4 types of crunches at the end of our official workout. The last week I was at the gym in December I got up to 1000 total. God it kills the stomach but hey at least I know it effectively whittles the waist gradually (just 300-400 a session will do: that's what I was doing in October-December) and keeps my tummy managed (in less than 2 months time too now that's motivating). To get packs tho is another story but hence another goal.

Probably won't be till midFeb till I get back but so looking fwd to it. Probably change up my routine with diff weight machines or else maybe try Spinning for a few wks. btw I have yet to lose a single pound since October; even gained 3 more in early December. O.o. But I'm hoping its all muscle, and at my age I spose I can't expect to lose easily just like that. its ok tho - I accept that. :)
